This should be done while you are on win XP:

1-right click on my computer
2- choose ( properties)---then choose ( advanced )
3- go down to the title: ( start up and recovery ),, choose setting
4- you will find ( choose default operating system in the first line)
5- after choosing,,, you have to click on ( apply ) then ok

you can also choose how many seconds should system wait before going to the default system

that is it

I have a triple boot system with NT,98 and 2K

1.Unhide your system files.
2.Locate boot.ini
3.Edit it using notepad.

Edit the line containing "Default=", under the heading [Boot Loader]

Copy and paste the line containing multi(0).....="windows XP" and put it after default =.

The result should read something like:
Default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT

Depending on which and what type of disk, partition and folder XP is installed in.

In XP, click Start>Run>Msconfig

Click the Boot.INI tab,

listed under [Operating Systems] highlight the line starting with multi(0)disk(0)... Click the "set as default" button, click the "Apply" button, and click "Ok".
Reboot your computer.

How did you managed to save 98 on your PC usually after you install XP it automatically upgrades older version. If you still using 98 for some thing only way to do it switch 98 or XP at start. if you not using it then reinstall XP and do not save 98 at all, that way you going to have xp default (only OS) on your PC
