To get rid of the person, I moved into the left lane to let them by. Then, at the stop sign they start making gestures back at me like I did something wrong. Of course, I said something out of my window that you were tailgating me and I pulled over to the left to let you go. Now, you have a problem with me? Then, he got into the left lane, I passed him and he took a picture of my license tag. What does that mean? Should I take this to the authorities?

For the gentleman that said there is more to this, sorry to say there is not. I live in SE Florida and the people moving to this area are not very nice. I did not even use profanity. I just pointed out to the man that he was tailgating me in the RIGHT lane. That is it. And what is worse...I had people ahead of me so I could not go anywhere except to the left.

no, they can't prove anything...only that you passed them and that's not unlawful.
they are an idiot and don't let it ruin your day.

You encountered another "loose nut behind the steering wheel." Unfortunately, these cannot be fixed with an ordinary wrench, it takes an attitude adjustment on the part of the other driver.
It's road rage and you have to learn to deal with it. Some of these nut jobs are harmless, but there are the occasional whack jobs out there who can cause real trouble, if they decide to "go postal" and pull out a gun. Those are far and few, but they are out there.
Best advice is to just let these morons go their way. I absolutely hate tailgaters - I always fear that their braking reaction time is too slow and when I least expect it, they will slam into my car. They don't have a clue how close they are driving, nor do they realize what a safe following distance should be.
To get rid of them, I slow down just below the posted speed limit, and they usually get the message and pass me by. Or I will alternately coast and speed up, within a few miles of the speed limit - this causes them to have to brake when they catch up, and speed up again when I pull away. A few times of that & they drive off.
Since you were in the right lane and being followed, my advice would be to pull over into a large shopping center or business office parking lot, and let the jerk pass you.
And don't worry about the photographs - the cops don't have time to investigate photos of other drivers unless there was a crime committed. And since no cops were around, nothing will come of it. I just think the moron behind you was just trying to intimidate you.
Take a deep breath, let it exhale (you weren't injured and no cars were damaged) and have a very nice Christmas and New Year's with your friends and family.
Later.

If you are going slow in the right lane, you are where you are supposed to be. Don't slam on the brakes. Causing an accident doesn't help anything (although it is tempting). If you get hit hard enough and are injured is it worth it? Just take your foot off the gas and slow down. Keep slowing down until the moron goes around you.

I would have done what I always do when someone gets too close to me in person or in the car... Slammed on the brakes!
Nothing they can do about it really...
HOLY CRAP A SQUIRREL! SCREEEEECH!
If they hit you... no matter what, it is there fault!
Maybe more tailgaters would quit doing it if more people tested their resolve...?
I hate tailgaters!

He had road rage, and he didn't belong on the road. You didn't do anything wrong.
For future reference, when I'm getting tailgated, I usually drive at a ridicullously slow speed, and they usually either back off, or pass. Either that or I hit my brakes enough to make them back off.

i would have slammed my brakes so he would rear end me. and i would have told him a racoon ran in front of me. it woulda been his fault for not maintaining a safe stopping distance. but yes i would definately go to the cops. and as for his picture i doubt it turned out cuz usually when you take pics of a license plate the reflectiveness of them makes it so you cant see the numbers. only if he used a flash. or you could do some vigilanty stuff and steal his valve stems or something... just some ideas

No matter what happened...if a cop didn't see it he can't write anybody for anything. Somehow I don't think we have all the information here. What did you leave out?
