A friend of mine was diagnoed with Lyme Disease in November after his vision began deteriorating, memory loss, fatigue, mood swings, and other symmtoms similar to those associated with Lyme Disease began to worsen. After several weeks of treatment for Lyme Disease the Doctors have noticed little or no improvement and have ordered him to discontinue treatment as they do not know what illness he has.

What should he do?
What other diseases/ illnesses might it be?

Thanks

Your friend should ask his doctor, or even better, a Rheumatologist, to be checked for MS or Lupus, esp. weakness, fatigue, vision problems, etc....Those two diseases can have very similar symptoms to Lyme Disease. I was first checked for lyme disease but it turned out I had Lupus. I wish him luck and that they find out what it is.

Your friend may still have Lyme disease. After the disease is present in the body for a prolonged period of time, it may not respond to antibiotic therapy. The infection is treated, but the effects will persist because the damage has already been done. If he had Lyme titers checked and they were positive and his symptoms are consistent with Lyme disease, then that may be the cause after all. Of course there are a number of other illnesses and disease processes that may cause similar symptoms. An internist or a neurologist would be a good place to look for further evaluation and investigation into the cause of your friend's symptoms.

Try Legionnaire's Disease. My cousin has the identical signs and went by way of YEARS of assessments and remedies and all this different stuff. Her mothers and fathers eventually took her to a professional at the East Coast who has appropriately identified Legionnaire's Disease. She it seems that reduced in size this sickness at the same time dwelling within the dorms at university. The dorms had alot of mould within the vent process or whatever. I have no idea. But I do understand that the medical professionals notion for a long time that she had Lyme Disease however she did not reply to ANY medication for Lyme Disease. Since her new prognosis and new remedies, she is doing a lot bigger, however nonetheless has an extended street forward. Good good fortune to you and your pal. And uncover a professional to speak to. Family medical professionals wouldn't have adequate enjoy with this form of stuff to understand virtually up to a professional will.

Have your friend seek a second opinion and get a CT scan or MRI to rule out diseases of the brain.
