The ethmoid is the thinnest bone in the body, which is short in one dimension.

Ummm - I'm not actually sure which one is the shortest bone. There's a bunch of really small bones which would include

malleus
incus
stapes
sesamoid bones
nasal bones
pisiform bone of the carpus

take your pick - they're all pretty small

Looks like they're saying Stapes (the stirrup shaped ossicle of the ear)

The stapes or stirrup is the stirrup-shaped small bone or ossicle in the middle ear which attaches the incus to the fenestra ovalis, the "oval window" which is adjacent to the vestibule of the inner ear. It is the smallest and lightest bone in the human body. The stapes transmits the sound vibrations from the incus to the membrane of the inner ear inside the fenestra ovalis. In non-mammalian vertebrates, the bone homologous to the stapes is usually called the columella; however, in reptiles, either term may be used.

they are the three little bones in our ears that called the hammer, the anvil, and the stirrup. They vibrate as the pinna(the ear part that you can see)collects the sounds and the ear drum vibrates .they are also the only bones that doesnt grow from childhood.Their location is at the middle ear

I wouldn't say shortest but smallest-these are the ossicles in your ear.
