2 things. The reason we think he is relating the goat smell is because another day, my husband decided to cook some lamb tender loins and Brodie(our dog) cowered and acted almost the same way as he did to my brother in law. So, we are thinking maybe he was on a farm with goats or lambs and abused, so he relates that smell. Another thing, my brother in law is not a wierdo who is abusing my dog when i am not looking or on drugs. This has happened since the very first time he stepped foot into our house.

My husband's family had a dog like that growing up. They adopted it from a shelter, and for some reason the dog was terrified of my husband's brother, who had never done anything to him. It was so bad he would run to the corner and pee everytime he walked into the same room. They thought the same thing - the dog had been abused by someone who looked like or had the same build as my husband's brother.

Your poor dog!! It will get better though.

Sorry to hear it. I guess you kind of have to avoid cooking lamb or anything that will catch his smell buttons. It takes alot of love and tender reassuring. Trust me I am experienced with abused animals. I had a dog by the name of buster. He was afraid of his own shadow. With the love, and time spent with him he was the dog he was supposed to become . Very loving. Sadly when my husband died, and Ihad to sell my home, he run away. So hopefully he found nice people to live with.

okay...the goat smell...whatever. yeah, dogs that have been mistreated in the past may attribute certain qualities of their abuser in new people they meet. i'm sure your brother is not abusing your dog. it's possible the dog was mistreated or someone was unkind to him in the past and your brother somehow looks like the abuser or sounds like him or stands like him or whatever.
