Who is God?
The question "Who is God?" is a good question. It is better than asking "What is God?" This is because God exists, created us, loves us, is concerned for our being, desires to provide for us, and sent the Son to redeem us. If we were to ask "What is God?" we might be tempted to say that God is the infinite being, the creator, a presence, or something like that. In some respect, this would be true. But the first question brings us closer to understanding more of who God really is in His character and His love for us as revealed in the Bible.
The Bible teaches us that in all existence, from all eternity, there has been and always will be only one God. God was never created, is completely loving, completely just, completely holy, completely merciful, and that He desires the best for us. God is holy and He can have nothing to do with sin as the Bible says, "His eyes are too pure to look upon evil," (Hab. 1:13). This does not mean that God cannot see what someone does that is wrong. It is a way of describing how holy God is. God cannot sin. He is perfect.
In Christianity, God is a Trinity. This means that God is three persons, not three gods. Technically, the doctrine of the Trinity states that in the one God is the person of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Each is not the same person as the other; yet there are not three gods but one. This is similar in analogy to the nature of time. Time is past, present, and future. The past is not the same as the present, which is not the same as the future. But, there are not three times. There is only one thing called time.
The reason the word "person" is used in describing the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit is because each exhibits attributes of personhood -- not in a body of flesh and bones, but in personality. In other words, each has a will, loves, speaks, is aware of others, communicates with others, etc. These are attributes of personhood and we see the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit each demonstrate these qualities.
Because of the Trinity, God can become flesh in the form of the Son, and still exist in such a way so that He can run the universe. Therefore, the Son can communicate to us on our level.
Following are a couple verses that hint at the Trinity.
Matt. 28:19, "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit."
2 Cor. 13:14, "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all."
The Bible says there is only one God: "I am the Lord, and there is no other;
Besides Me there is no God," (Isaiah 45:5). Yet, the Bible teaches that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are each called God.
Below is a very brief chart that shows that each of the persons in the Trinity share the same attributes that only God shares. But remember, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit each have wills, and speak, etc. Therefore, we say there are are three persons.
FATHER SON HOLY SPIRIT
Called God Phil. 1:2 John 1:1,14; Acts 5:3-4
Creator Isaiah 64:8 John 1:3; Job 33:4, 26:13
Everywhere 1 Kings 8:27 Matt. 28:20 Psalm 139:7-10
All knowing 1 John 3:20 John 16:30; 21:17 1 Cor. 2:10-11
A Will Luke 22:42 Luke 22:42 1 Cor. 12:11
Speaks Matt. 3:17; Luke 5:20; 7:48 Acts 13:2

God is God!
This is a great question since it works better to try and define or understand "who" God is before you can try to define or understand who man is.
God is an infinite being with no top, bottom or sides. In our attempts to describe the infinite with our finite understandings we tend to put God in a box with a top, bottom and sides because of our limited understandings and ability to truly grasp the infinite.
God has used a lot of different names that describe His nature, His heart, what He thinks is important and His perspective towards man in the bible. In the Old Testament the varied names used by God have been translated as Lord or God. In the New Testament, which is mainly written in Greek, the many names used describing Jesus are still there.
Old Testament Names of God:
Elohiym: The Most High God
El Shaddai: God Almighty
Yahweh; Jehovah (Hebrew/Greek):
Lord To Be, The Ever Living One, Self-Existing One
Insert these descriptive names for the meaning of Jehovah in place of the word God below.
Jehovah Jirah: God Our Provider
Jehovah Rapha: God Our Healer
Jehovah Nissi: God Our Banner
Jehovah Mekaddish: God Who Makes Us Holy
Jehovah Shalom: God Our Peace
Jehovah Rohi: God Our Shepherd
Jehovah Tsidkinu: God Our Righteousness
Jehovah Shammah: God Is Always Present
Anonay: The Lord Most Sovereign

God the eternal Son became incarnate in Jesus Christ. Through Him all things were created, the character of God is revealed, the salvation of humanity is accomplished, and the world is judged. Forever truly God, He became also truly man, Jesus the Christ. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived and experienced temptation as a human being, but perfectly exemplified the righteousness and love of God. By His miracles He manifested God's power and was attested as God's promised Messiah. He suffered and died voluntarily on the cross for our sins and in our place, was raised from the dead, and ascended to minister in the heavenly sanctuary in our behalf. He will come again in glory for the final deliverance of His people and the restoration of all things. (John 1:1-3, 14; Col. 1:15-19; John 10:30; 14:9; Rom. 6:23; 2 Cor. 5:17-19; John 5:22; Luke 1:35; Phil. 2:5-11; Heb. 2:9-18; 1 Cor. 15:3, 4; Heb. 8:1, 2; John 14:1-3.)

Mine, ha Well I believe that each religion has a bit or piece of the truth and together will form a true religion. I also believe if you are a good person you will have an afterlife. I don't think murderers and child molester's will go to heaven once they ask for forgiveness. etc.. I think the true religion hasn't been put together yet. We are all a little right in our beliefs but there is more to be discovered

Well, first of all, God has a name= Jehovah+Jesus+Holy Spirit= Trinitarian God. Yet, technically, there are thousands of gods that existed before Jesus' day and still exist now. All I believe is that the Holy One of Israel is the all-powerful God of all time!

I always felt Gods answer to Moses, when he
asked "who shall I say sent me?" was profound!
God said "I AM!"
God is like the first thought, or realization that He
existed. God is like the whole first dimension of
reality. And the guiding force behind all Life!

God is everyone... he is the unborn child of a mother that is thinking of abortion, he is the victim of a rapist, he is the geeky kid everyone picks on during recess, he is the dog that daddy gave his little girl for Christmas last year and got so annoying that got kick out to the back yard. he is in the heart of the mother that is going to abort her child urging her not to do so, he is in the mind of the rapist trying to give him a conscience, he is in the soul of the bully trying to calm him down, he is in the family of the dog urging them to play with him. God is everything and everywhere... we just have to choose to be him, and be with him

Doesn't really matter what I think. It is not my opinion that counts (read Exodus 32 sometime, it is in the Bibles & Pentateuch).
