I have a white boyfriend but do people actually still believe in the no-mix-of-race mumbo jumbo? this is 2006 almost 07 not the 60's and i dont believe in limiting myself to only one race. I am not racist. Has strict racial preferences eased a little? Why do some folks believe you should only date your own race? what are your thoughts on interracial dating/marriage?

Racism is still rampant and there are those on both sides of the color spectrum who are opposed to fraternizing with people outside their race. Racism, to me, is as a result of ignorance and only by exposure, positive social-conditioning and openmindedness, can it be eliminated.

Some people, they may not be prejudiced, may choose to date within their own race because that may just be their preference (perception of beauty or attractiveness) or because they want to avoid societal pressure (e.g. someone marrying someone from a lower class or caste0 or simply they want some who readily identifies with their particular culture. For instance, someone from a particular tribe in Nigeria may find it easier to get along with someone from that same tribe. This certainly does not indicate racism or prejudice although it says something about the willingness of that person to be daring and come outside the comfort zone.

I have not had the chance to date anyone outside my race. I am not sure if this is as a result of my staying in my own comfort zone, or if no one from another race has really been interested. I would do it, if I had the chance. Also, if the dating turns into love and the opportunity for marriage, why not do it?

I am not racist , I have a half brother that is asain . just to set the record straigth before I tell you why .

I do think that races should stay with in their own race .. , Because of the fact , that if they have a child , that child has to be teased about where they came from. Now days kids have so much pressure with their peers school and parents , why add more to their plate .. why have them feel the pain of others saying things to them that hurt and they can not help .. I do hope that every child that does come from a mixed race , can stand proud and be who they want to be in their life and not let any one hold them down ..

I don't have a problem with it. I'm Caucasion and my wife's Latino. Those who don't believe in mixing see their racial type as something to be preserved. I don't think it's wrong to believe that either. People should be allowed their preferences. It's just another way of viewing the world. It becomes a problem however when hate is involved and that hate is taught and passed on to others.

Well, you'll be amazed of what people believe. There some people that are racist and I'm not talking about white folks, I'm talking about all groups. I am not that kind of person. For some reason, people believe that preserving their race is what God wants them to do. That's just plain prejudism.

I am in a interracial relationship and we have a child and we own a home together. Unfortunately there will always be bigots out there. Go with your heart and forget about what other people say

I don't have a problem with someone marrying a toad if it makes them happy. Love is such a rare thing in this world I think you should grab it wherever you can. People that disagree with interracial dating are just ignorant.

People still think that you should only date/marry in your own race. People think this because they think it is wrong. They have eased because my aunt was able to marry her husband. I think you should be able to marry/date anybody you want to even if they aren't in your race.

I personally don't care who you or anyone else marrys so long as the person(s) is/are consenting adults.
Mixed race? Sure!
Same sex? Sure!
Multiple spouses? Sure!

Doesn't hurt me any, doesn't hurt you.

Consenting adults! That is the only thing that needs to be considered.
