Ichee, the people with the porn avatars tend to ask some pretty ridiculous questions, so in their case stupid questions are the norm.

Any question that is asked to gain knowledge is a good question. A question asked only as a way of putting down others is not a good question. Some of the questions asked in this forum are pre-loaded with a group and are intended to provoke a response.
In school, a student who answered a question with an answer outside of the box was often ridiculed and put down by classmates....watch the answers on here and you can see the same thing happening...and when the best answers are selected, it is not necessarily the one the really answers the question or gives the most researched response, it is an answer that makes fun of or ridicules others....those are the ones that bother people....

There are certainly stupid askers.
I'd class a stupid question as one of four ways:
A question asked when the asker already provides the answer and is closed-minded to anything else. So it's basically just a chance to rant at people. "Who is the one god? Yeah, that's right, it's snagglepuss the wonder cat! "
A question designed to ridicule. "Why are all such ingorant buttheads?"
A question based on obviously ignorant assumptions that are portrayed as fact. "Since we already know that evolution is a myth perpetrated by nazis to take attention away from the fact that Hitler was trying to convert people to Islam...."
A question asked numerous times every day, when the asker could have simply done a search for the thousands of other people who asked that question. "If Atheists don't believe in my Xian god, why are they in my R&S section?"
Yes. There are stupid Questions. Oh my, are there ever...

To keep asking to many questions during a class, could interupt he teachers train of thought, even if the questions were good ones. To stay after school, is probably the best way to discuss what you wanted to know. I think all questions are good ones, but you don't want stupid answers.

Yes, there are stupid questions. People who has questions that they already think they know the answers to, and are questions that are ill thought out, arrogant, and based on nonfactual information that they are presenting as fact.
An honest question is always a good question. The problem is it is hard to decided which are the honest questions and which are the stupid ones. I try to treat all questions as honest ones, although I have seen many people ask obvious stupid ones.

Only stupid people who think they have no questions left.
I don't believe in the stupid question. The stupid asker maybe as I know some people's questions are just jokes. Sometimes it is hard to tell which is which so it is better to answer 'em all like they are serious.
I remember someone used to answer all my questions talking about some lady with a fist in the air......

There are certainly questions that are designed to insult. I think that there are stupid questions. Sometimes when my brain is taking the day off I will ask a stupid question and then realize just how stupid it was.

I had an experience similar to yours...I had a teacher who told us that no question was stupid. And I believe that. If you ask a question, you can only learn from the answers. There are some stupid people who use questions to gain atttention or be "funny", but overall, questions are good.

Have you gotten a response to the question about church that you keep asking? About change and conformation.
In reply to this question, I have seen ignorance, and blatant hate and dissension. Stupidity comes from those things. And those are from the mindset of the person asking.
edit: I wasn't implying that your question was stupid, just a genuine curiosity. Hope it didn't read that way, vicki

There are no stupid questions if you are seeking to learn something, about a subject, or even about a person. If you are not seeking to truly learn something, then stupid questions become par for the course.
If its a stupid question, set out to irritate or riducle, I try not to waste my time. Cant help it sometimes, but I try to avoid them.
