Well, actually in scripture there are God's elect, but just because somebody is Christian doesn't make them "elect". Gods elect were chosen before the foundation of this world - before adam and eve, when there was a great war in heaven and Satan rebelled. The elect were the ones who stuck with God and so they were named "elect" and judged there - That means that for that particular group of people, there is no free will involved. God will place them where he needs them for the end times, and be sure they acquire the truth in the Scriptures, as they will help to bring this age to a close. Sometimes in the Word, God refers to them as "saints", which translated means "set aside ones". When a church names a "saint" it shows total lack of knowledge of Gods word - men do not choose saints. What about all the rest of the people who are not elect? They have free will, and this is because they must have it to make a choice this time as to whether they will follow God or Satan. If God was to interfere, then at their judgement they could say "hey God, you interferred with my life, or else I would have done it different". So, unless one of those people specifically request through prayer for His help, he will not interfere, ever. Does God know exactly what every person will do? Of course not, thats why we were put into flesh and were born to this place - time to weed out the chaff, then the rest of us can go into the eternity. So as far as predestination goes, check out Jeremiah chapter 1 - God tells the prophet that he knew him BEFORE he placed him in his mothers womb, and predestined him to be a prophet. This is not only a statement for pre-existance, but also for a great example of Gods election.

Maybe the word predestination needs to be changed to "pre-rescued" in order for us to understand it better. It is not a belief in God making everyone a robot. Free will is just a constant rejection of God, and this is quite biblical-no one of their own nature seeks him anyway. And, I would think that an almighty God would be powerful enough to not only rescue his own, but choose those that he wants to rescue from before the foundations of the earth. Call it being a robot if you like, but I'll call it saved in the rescue sense. Don't those two words mean the same thing anyway?

well, everyone is predestined to some extent due to genetics, gender and the social environment into which they are born, nature and nurture forming the basis for a future.
as for religious concepts ... take em or leave em as pleases you because no human knows THE ultimate Truth.
PS. don't let the Christians lie to you concerning their god's magnanimous provision of "free will". the Bible states quite clearly that their god predetermines who is rewarded and who is condemned before creation.
Acts 13:48
And as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.
Rom.8:29-30
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate.... Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
2 Th.2:11-12
God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned.
2 Tim.1:9
Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.
Jude 4
For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation.

You're not thinking. Neither of these is true. Neither of them HAS to be true. One does not have to accept that any faith has the whole story. If you sit down and think about it, how could that possibly be?
All possibilities exist simultaneously. A human usually does choose his own course through life, but many of us feel that we are forced along a path not of our own choosing. It's your job to examine your own wishes and desires, and select the chances that will give you the outcome in life that you want. Good luck!

We are created beings, created by God. We live and operate within bounds and laws - so we are predestined to some extent to what we are subjected to without our control. We are sinful beings also, since Adam and Eve sinned, we are all sinful in nature. Our natural thing to do is to sin, but through Jesus our Savior our destiny of sinning and dying can be changed. It is our own free will to accept that freedom through Jesus.

Do you believe in cause and effect? If you believe that things happen because of events causing them to happen, then it is easy to see that the future unfolds from the past, and as such there's one and only one way that it can unfold.
What does this tell you?

Your understanding of Christianity is flawed but I will tackle the answer.
God gave humans free will. This means there is no way to predetermine what they will do. However; you must understand that God sees time in a different light. He sees our life span like we see a painting. He can see the beginning of the picture and the end all at the same time. This only means he can see what you are going to do but has not 'predefined' what it is you are going to do.

I believe that if one stays on the path they are on, the
end is inevitable. But one can make choices to change
the end result.
Destiny is something we make for ourselves.
Fate is what happens if we don't!
