The deflection system in television uses coils to move an electron beam both horizontally and vertically on your television CRT. As the beam scans across the tube, it is modulated (turned off and on) to create the different brightnesses on the screen.

The link below has a drawing of that might help explain how it works. This drawing is giving PAL (European) figures, but the basic scan is the same. The US television system is called NTSC and only has 525 lines in the vertical, not the 625 of the PAL.

Defelection is ony used in CRTs to create the horizontal scan. I'm not sure what the question is.

i think you refer to the deflection choke at thw back panel of the crt. kindly cheeck its location if there;s is any misalignement on your present tv.
