it's hard when things like that happen.. seems almost like the boyfriend/girlfriend in those kind of situations is more attached with the family rather than their ex's. try a gift certificate to a music store or clothes store. or make him up a basket of things he might like.. (ex. Mens body spray/cologne, clothes , etc)

Hey....I thought you just said that they broke-up?
He may be a well-rounded kid from a good positive family
but they are only teenagers.
Personally......I wouldn't get him anything. Don't push it.
I would only get him something if they got back together before
Christmas and he was spending time at your home over the holidays. Sounds like YOU might have had BIG plans for this kid.

First of all... get over it! Your daughter is a teenager and if you end up liking every boyfriend she ever has, you will be buying a lot of gifts.

You are not obligated to get him anything. A Best Buy gift certificate? Come on! You might as well say... "I have no real connection to you anymore, but here's a load of cash."

Let your daughter decide if they are going to get back together, and if they are together next year, then it may be appropriate to get him something.

Your generation is too fixated on having a man, for gods sake let the girl move on. It's a great big world out there, and his family is not the only positive one out there. Unless you're like everyone else and when you say positive, its really code for they have money. Wait to see what he gets her. How stupid will you feel when you get him something and he gets his new piece something else? You'll beg his rich butt back.

Unless he's coming to your house for Christmas then I don't think you should get him anything. If they have broken up then you are not helping her by trying to hang on to a relationship with her ex-boyfriend. If your families have been close you want to get them a family gift, a poinsettia or goodie basket from somewhere, then that would be alright I think...but not just a gift for the boy.

Tough position with no easy answers. Perhaps a gift card to a nice restaurant, maybe he will take your daughter. Or just a simple card with a hand written note telling him how you feel.

A nice card (just from you to him) would probably be most appropriate. But have you asked your daughter what she thinks of the idea? She's just a teenager, and doesn't need to feel uncomfortable about the situation.

You've left a lot of open ended questions. Does he still come around? Is your daughter dating someone else? Don't push your daughter into being with him, she's only a teenager and shouldn't be serious with anyone right now.

do not buy anything, as a parent I have never purchased a gift for my son or daughters significant others. This is a bad thing to start doing.

Why don't you ask your daughter what she thinks or how she fells about gettign back with him? You don't want to get something too personal that would make it worse. MP3 players fit anyone. Get him a small shuffle or something like that. They should be $99 or less.
