Protestants is a blanket name for many denominations of Christianity which first came about by "protesting" the Catholic church, and formed their own religions based on their interpretations of the teachings of the Bible.

Back in the middle ages Many people didn't like the way the Catholic Church was running things so they protested broke with the Catholic Church and started their own. These Protestants had many different Ideas about how to interpret the Holy bible and how their Doctrine should be. So they broke into many different factions or branches of the Protestant faith. That's about the gist of it. I once belonged to a branch called the Pentecostal Holiness. We believed in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit as one God. Some Churches believe they are separate entices. We believe In full submersion for baptism. Some church believe sprinkling on the head is sufficient. We believed in speaking in tongues and lots of shouting. Some churches believe in setting quietly in their pews while the pastor calmly gives his sermon. That is what I have observed as some of the differences in some of the Protestant faiths and why I am an Atheist after realizing how silly the whole damn thing was. God Bless Betty.
