She's the only one that gets sick from going to the vet. My two other cats never get sick when I bring them! The office is CLEAN and the vet is friendly with the animals! I said the stress does that! There's no problem with the vet!!

If you will use the Rescue Remedy on her it will reduce her stress from a vet visit. I have two vets who put flower essences on cats when they take them from their carriers at the vet office.

You can go to www.spiritessence.com and read about the use of flower essences with animals. Dr. Jean Hovfe has a mixture called "Stress Stopper" which would do the same as the RR. That would have to be mailed to you from Colorado.

I think you're trying to ask help on curbing your cat's illness, but I could be wrong, because your question doesn't really contain a question...

A lot of cats experience vomiting and diarrhea after a trip to the vet's office, and you're right, it's often a result of the stress they experience. The first step in treating it is to identify the actual cause of the anxiety. Is it the carrier? Is it the car ride itself? Is it the fact that she's handled by someone unfamiliar? Is it the smells and sounds she experiences at the clinic?

Once you've identified the cause of the problem, you can work to desensitize her. Try introducing her to the scary stimulus in a controlled manner (i.e. if it's the car, take a short five-minute drive and promptly return home, lavishing her with praise, so she understands that the car is not a bad thing). If you find it's the clinic itself that causes problems, ask your vet if you can bring your cat in for a quick petting from the reception staff. Only too often, our cats make trips to the veterinarian when 1) they're sick, or 2) they need vaccines (ouch!). A brief visit that isn't associated with any pokes or prods will help enforce that the clinic is not all bad.

Some veterinarians will recommend sedatives for cats who experience anxiety, but this isn't always helpful. Sedatives only lessen the cats response to stress because their mobility and reflexes are impaired, but does not necessarily less the stress itself. If you find your cat does need some medical intervention to help with her problems, make sure it is indeed an anti-anxiety medication, and not just a sedative. The liquid additive that people above are mentioning is called Resue Remedy - it's one of the Bach Flower remedies, and some people find it can help take the edge off without knocking a kitty out. It might be helpful in your situation, and it's all natural.

I hope you have some luck modifying your cat's behavior. It is very difficult as an owner to watch your cat become so upset. You sound like a very concerned and competent cat owner, and I hope these suggestions help you out some.

All animals get stressed out when they go to the vet, it's only natural.

I don't believe she can get an URI from stress though. She'll just have to suck it up, be under stress for a while, but she should always go for her yearly exams. This way, if there is anything medically wrong with her, it could be caught and taken care of early.

Ask your vet about an herbal treatment for anxiety that comes in liquid form and is put into the cat's water. Should calm her down before the trip to the vet. Sorry I can't remember the name of it - I used it several years ago for the same reason.

So what do you want to know? Obviously you have to ask the vet why your kitty is getting sick, and if the vet says I dont know...than I repeat my self once more "Find a different vet"

God Bless.

P.S: Where are you going with this??

Do you have carpeting in your house or apartment?
Is it new?
Have you just had it cleaned?
Do you use any carpet freshener on it?
Your cat could have an allergy to any of those things. If you have a room without carpet try leaving her in there a few days to see if it helps. Don't jump to conclusions though if she does get better. It might be the antibiotics.

Have you tried different cat foods for her?
Different litters?
Do you wear perfumes or colognes?
Do you use scented candles, potpourri, or air fresheners?
She could be sensitive or allergic to any of them.

Have you recently tried a new flea collar or a new collar?
That could be it as well.
