I am thinking about getting a pet bird and currently it will probably be a Quaker Parakeet. Are these very noisy? I'd quite like to teach it to talk but do not want it being too loud!

All birds vocalize. That's just what they do. I don't care if you get a parakeet, you're still going to deal with noise. I guess the key is in deciding how much noise you can deal with. I have Macaws. For an hour every morning and an hour every night, I get to listen to screaming, at the tip top of their lungs, in a contest to see who can make the most delightful sound.

Quakers, while they aren't as loud as Macaws, are still noisy, and still sing, whistle, talk and vocalize. Your responsibility will be in entertaining your bird so that he doesn't have to entertain himself with the sound of his own voice. And, even that isn't going to eliminate the sound.

Go to your library and check out any book by Sally Blanchard. She's, as far as I'm concerned, the God of the Avian world. She usually has a chapter in all of her books about picking out the right bird for your way of life.

All birds "call" at sunrise and sunset. Some tend to do so throughout the day as well. I depends on what your idea of noisy is? If you really like sleeping late in the mornings, then birds may not be for you.

parakeets are very noisy birds so if you don't like noise they are not the birds for you. As for talking they can be taught to talk but i don't think they have a very big vocab.

from my experience in birds they are just animals and usually do what they want to do not what you want them to do. My birds are quiet when I want them to play, then noisey when i wnt them to be quiet because im watching tv. Each bird will be different some will be noisey some wont so prepare yourself for a noisey one then if its not noisey, its a bonus!
