Well, according to the Jewish tradition and scripts, there is only one god.
This god converse with his created people directly seldom, and he's served by other "bru'im", created-ones, called "mal'achim" (plural of "mal'ach"- angel): "messengers", or "emissaries".

Gabriel is one of these messengers, and althoug he is well respected in the Jewish tradition, he is not considered more divine than you and me.

Angel in Judaism are servants of G-d. With the exception of the devil Christianity holds pretty much same view.
