Yes you can keep it in the fridge as long as it is nice and cool. This may sound a bit odd, but I have a very cold shed in my garden and I totally wrap my turkey in foil and put it in there. It's just the same as a cold store and it gives you the extra space in your fridge at this time of year.

before anyone invented use by, or consume by, or only store until dates we would save things for ages. I remember a tin of red salmon sitting in our pantry waiting for the right occasion, sixty years later it may still be there. The big thing I was taught during the war when I was made to do the shopping was to inspect every tin. a tiny dent, a crease in the metal or the end swelling and the tin went back onto the shelf. now I watch young dollies snatch up a tin and throw it into the trolley making a big clang when it lands. not a good practice. I see whole packs of tins with crush marks or fork lift marks and think some poor soul will be tucking into that next week. or the week after... makes you think.

With fresh meat you use your nose. If you don't fancy the smell. you don't eat it, or not until grandma has had some.

I assume that it was bought fresh from the store. In that case just keep it in the fridge. If you freeze it you will have to take it out in a day or two anyway to ensure that it defrosts in time!

The use by date is the 26th so it will be fine.

I would recommend removing the giblets though, store them in a sealed tub in the fridge - they make the best gravy!

Keep your turkey in the bag until you are ready to clean it. Most likely, it is still firm or almost frozen anyway. Fresh turkeys can be cleaned in cold water and the meat will completely thaw very quickly, unlike a frozen turkey. Store a fresh turkey in the coldest part of your refrigerator or beg your meat man to hold it for you. But do not wait until the last minute to buy one. They run out early.
Don't let the code date throw you off. These birds have shorter shelf life and they always show code dates close to the holiday. Just keep it in the bag until you are ready for it.

No, if you put it in the fridge it will die.

Keep a fresh turkey in a barn with plenty of wood shavings, let it out during the day. Feed it corn.

No, you should only keep a fresh turkey in the fridge for up to 4 days without cooking. You'll need to deep freeze before your cook date to ensure you cut down your risks of food-borne illness.

Happy Holidays to you!

Yes. Take the giblets out. If you're going to use them, keep them in a covered box in the fridge.

You can always freeze it - but if you plan on using it for Christmas, it should be fine. My guess, is that it came frozen from the store, right?

I'd just keep it in the fridge.
