I've read that you have to see the doctor's because you can get scars there. Well, scars are not that terrible in this region, aren't they? Nobody will see them.

Are there special effects in the genital region like loss of sensitivity or something like that?

Poison Ivy spreads and normally needs air to dry and heal, The genital region is too close to the reproductive system and if you get a rash there, the scars can cause symptoms like endromytrosis. Its much harder to heal poison ivy there because (obviously) you will have a much harder time exposing it to open air to dry and heal.

Nobody's going to see them? I guess you are intending on never having a serious an intimate relationship for your entire life? :-P

The fact of the matter is that the genital area is very sensitive. Anything that can cause a rash or blister is going to be exceptionally painful in that area. In addition to this, some people have SEVERE allergies to urushiol, the oil that makes poison ivy and oak have the effect it does, resulting in intense pain and swelling. Firefighters who have breathed in urushiol fighting brush fires have been incompacitated by it, and some people even have reported having their eyes swollen shut from coming in contact with it. The most severe cases have left people with permanent disfiguration on their skin or face.

It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that you do not want that happening to your genitalia! Scars and "loss of sensitivity" are the least of your worries. Now the REAL important question is this: why is this an issue with you? ;-)

Double the Benadryl dose and keep putting the Ivy-Dry spray on or get some Calamine Lotion, that might work better. It is okay to double the Benadryl dose, I did it for an allergic reaction that I had and talked with a doctor and he said that doubling the dose for a short period of time is okay. You might also want to take a Tagamet anti-acid tablet, that also acts as a antihistamine.

The poison ivy oil (urushiol) wouldn't cause trouble, as a combining of that oil and the outer layer of the skin is necessary to form a complete antigen (allergen). You're likely to have trouble, however, when the oil hits your anus.

I know I wouldn't want that touching my genital region.

"Nobody will see them" Huh?!! I guess that all depends on your sex life doesn't it?
Either way, I wouldn't be wearing poison ivy panties anytime in the forseeable future! Just to be safe.
