I agree Brad D. Its my opinion that these references are catered more to the new group of adults enjoying animation all over again. When I was a kid, animation looked nothing likes it looks today (i.e. Disney/ Pixar) and you certainly did not have cool actors doing their voices. I still don't know the guy that did Fred Flintstone's voice and I probably never will.
I believe your sentiment can be echoed all across the board with our society's need to rush children in to adulthood. Maybe its because our world is so different and subliminally we are saying to them, "hurry up and grow up, be prepared to face grown-up things and ideas".
I hate shopping for kids. I often can not determine if kids clothes are adult's clothes that has shrunk. Plunging necklines, heels, low-rider jeans on a 3 year old??? Give me a break!!
Great question Brad and it certainly spurned my thinking today.
Merry Christmas!

Because the People Making the movie Don't have children Of their own and they know no sense of what they are teaching our children. This world today is becoming so stupid. Some people think it is cute to teach a young child a bad word but It isn't funny when they grow up and call that bad word to you.... I guess We the People need to make a stand on this Issue... I hope this helps you

So many movie companys are trying to make childrens movies "fun" for the parents also. Like Shrek........ I'd just rather my children be able to watch a movie without references to inappropriate material. If I cared about my own enjoyment of a movie, I wouldn't be watching a childrens movie anyway, right? I think producers should take a hint and make childrens movies just that. A movie for CHILDREN, not PARENTS

Because life is...life. They undoubtedly get exposed to these behaviours without your knowledge. On the school grounds, on the bus, at the stores. It is up to us, parents, to teach our children how to behave. We cannot keep them away from swear words or sexual innuendos for ever, we must make them understand what is right and what is wrong. It is after all part of our responsibilities, parenting is not an easy job, but I'm certain you and others will live up to it. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family.

It's for the parents. They want a movie to be for the whole family, they have to appeal to the parents somehow. The sexual references go right over the kids heads, but they do wonder why mommy and daddy are laughing so hard. I hate movies like that. I prefer the good old fashioned family movies that hold morals and family values in check.

Sad that they do it, but it's so that the parents will be entertained. They are of the mindset that if there aren't references to make the parents laugh, then the parents won't take the kids to the movies.
What they fail to realize is that most good parents don't want that garbage in the movies.

I don't know, but I'm with you. I can't believe how many movies aimed at young kids have references that just make me squirm during a movie. I'm so uncomfortable sitting there with my child and her friends listening to it. It's gotten so that I will now screen a rented movie first and then let them watch at home. Happy Feet was a huge offender, in my opinion. And the list is endless!!

because they know that parents are watching the movie to, and they try to entertain them as well. Your child does not understand sexual inuendo, but you do. And I don't really ever remember seeing "Kid" movies with cuss words in them. If they are rated G then there isn't swear words. if it is PG you are supposed to make the call, because there might be a few cusses.

Great question. I wish I knew! The answer is that they dont need to do that. I think its just to get parents to enjoy the movie too. Dumb if you ask me
If it makes you feel any better, most the time the kids dont get the joke anyways.
