I had mine in the 8th or 9th month. People generally don't like to give showers till late for courtesy just in case something happens. That would be my guess anyway. I think 7 months would be ok too or whenever and your host want.

It's hard to wait to see what you need to buy, but when it comes down to it, all the baby needs is diapers and a few outfits and the rest you can get your husband or family to go to the store and pick up if need be. Maybe I exaggerate, but that's what I told myself when I freaked out at 7 months that I didn't know what people were getting me and couldn't plan ahead to buy what I would need to fill the gaps. It all worked out and I did have time to buy everything we needed. The hormones can make you crazy about stuff that generally works itself out anyway!

I'd serve foods you like. Do you have any cravings or favorite foods?

You can do finger foods or a brunch. I had one of each. It was all good. At the brunch there was a breakfast casserole, chocolate covered strawberries, fruit, cheese, little smokies, bagels and lox (cream cheese and capers too), pastries, and more. Don't forget the cake! Little sandwiches are good. Chocolate dipped spoons too.

Most people have the baby shower about a month or two before the due date.

If you're going to have a large group of guests, the best thing to do is to have lots of little finger foods and appetizers, so it's easy for people to walk around and eat at the same time. If it's only a small group of people, you can have more "sit down" type of foods. Most people eat pasta and chicken - so a penne vodka and chicken marsala are probably good choices.

congrats to both of you!
Give the shower 1-2 months before the baby is due. She will be nice and pregnant looking, and she'll have time to do what she needs to with her gifts...put up, set out, or exchange.

Finger foods all the way...no utensils to clean, are self-served, and easier to eat while she opens gifts. Use cookie cutters on sandwiches. mini hotdogs in blankets, cupcakes with pink or blue icing. So many little things you can come up with.

Ugh, theres nothing worse than someone who sticks their fingers in their showers, its really rude to try to make sure you get what you want, especially when peole are going out of their way to do something thoughtful and nice for you.

People have showers after the first 3 months, but its more common after the 7th.

You can eat anything you want to eat. Avoid fish. You dont want a whole meal, just finger foods. Veggies, cheeses, little sandwiches, appitisers, cake punch, things like that.

I would say wait but that's your choice. As far as food is concerned just have finger foods. Spinach dip, surprise spread, finger sandwiches, salads, and good things to drink. I have gone to baby showers where they have served this and it was wonderful.

6 months is usually a good time to have one, you can still have a little fun then, and most people know what they are having by then and what they want to do to their nursery and so on...

At 7 months. It's bad luck to have one before then.
