Yeah it hurts! Get some crushed ice and eat it immediately afterward. Also, be sure to use plenty of Listerine (EVERY time you finish eating or drinking) to keep down the risk of infection. Also, I found that using Gly Oxide (can be found at Wal-mart for about $5, with the toothpaste) helped with the pain.

It doesn't hurt getting it done (because the tongue is very spongey and the needle will go straight through), but it will swell up to twice it's size afterwards for about a week and that WILL hurt. (Each person varies on how long it takes to reduce in size, I didn't eat anything for about a week.)
In the end it's worth getting done. After 3 weeks it shouldn't hurt at all.
Some people need to get their facts straight aswell. The likelihood of your tongue getting infected is actually very slim because it's the only part of the body cleaning and protecting itself (through saliva). The piercer will probably tell you to use mouthwash, and that isn't a bad idea.

Sure, its gonna hurt. But what will add to the pain is your fear. Relax and it will be over in mere seconds. You will go through some initial discomfort but it will ease up after a few days.
You really want a tongue ring? The good thing is that if you wanna remove it, it will heal quickly. Tongue rings seems so 90s though.

I have my tongue piecred it didn't;t hurt it just felt like a lot of pressure it a little pinch sting, but know this your tongue is going to swell up especially if you talk alo t that's what happened to me and don't let people scare you about the infection thing you will only get an infection if you don't take care of it you have to rinse at least three times a day they will start you off with a little bottle of inse then you have to but it yourself i had mine for three years now and i still rinse ad you also have to take it out and clean the hole and the tongue ring. You will not be able to eat solid foods for at least a week if you do this will increase the risk of infection also you can not change it or take it out for at least 6 months or it will close automatically. make sure you go somewhere you trust and know they are clean and make sure they pierce your tongue with stainless steel and nothing else this lowers the risk of infection also. if they say they don't pierce with stainless steel then walk out because it is not legit.

The initial pain isn't any worse than getting your ears pierced. You'll feel pressure, and harsh sting, and then it will be over. Your tongue will be sore for 3-4 days. You can use mouthwash to help with the pain. Plain on only eating soft foods for the first couple days. Stay away from sodas and coffee. It's not that bad.

I had mine pierced about 8 years ago. the piercing itself is so fast before you know you are in pain it is over. the piercing is the easy part. the week after sucks. your tongue swells up well over the inch long barbell they give you. you have to watch what you eat and use mouthwash after you smoke eat etc. it is a pain. but well worth it when all is said and done the piercing is nice to have. good luck.

I don't have mine done but I know a lot of people who have done it, and they definitely say it hurts. It might turn black and blue and swell for a while, and you might have trouble talking. It also disturbs your taste buds (permanently), so some foods might taste weird. The risks for pain, infection, and loss of some taste are pretty high, and I personally don't think tongue rings look good anyway.
Good luck, and I hope it doesn't hurt too bad!

Trust me while your getting it done, it would be like a pinch.....the following week will be HELL. srry not trying to scare you but you cant eat and talk right. its not going to be painfull, if you treat it right.Like i said when there putting the rod in your tongue, its going to feel like a pinch THATS IT. After that plz plz suck on some ice, water, and eat nothing ( 1-2 weeks) thats spicey, salty, or HOT. BIG REMINDER THE ROD IS METAL, METAL IS A GOOD CONSUMER OF HEAT.....EATING HOT STUFF IS NOT A GOOD IDEA!! O and plz keep the rod in motion, for the hole in your tongue wont tighten up on the rod.....

I'm sure it probably will hurt plenty.
Have you started a savings fund for dental bills to cover all the damage you're going to do to your teeth with your tongue ring? If not, I advice you do so. Most people I know with tongue rings have done plenty of damage to their teeth - cracking, chipping, breaking, etc.
Not to mention how freaking annoying it is to talk to someone who has not yet learned how to talk around their piercing.

Yeah, it will hurt. But its not that awful. My tongue was swollen for about 3 days. Ice helps! Alot. I sucked on ice right after, and was able to eat a cheeseburger the same night.
