You need an installation disk for XP, or reimaging disk (if you bought your PC from a company like Dell etc.) Backup your data, and insert the XP disk into your drive - reboot the pc (if the option to re-install windows does not show up on your screen). You will be able to re-install Windows leaving the file system intact (not losing data on it). However, after a windows re-install you WILL have to re-install any applications you had previously installed. So, it is better just to back it all up, and re-format the drive during the new install of XP.
If, however, you will be using a re-imaging disk, you will most likely lose the data anywa (most likely you will not have an option to leave the file system intact). Backup, backup, backup before you do anything with your PC.

boot from bootable winxp cd, or stick the cd in if its not bootable once the old xp has started, follow the prompts and reinstall - you can choose the same partition/path as the old one and it will overwrite it or you can install it onto a seprate drive or folder - which will keep the old one intact. If you choose the latter, your boot.ini file will have two entries one for the old installation and one for the new one

vchange in the bios to load from disk drive first, then put the xp disk in drive and reset pc... when the option to boot from disk comes up accept it. choose to install xp then delete the old partition and make a new one... becarful as this removes the address of everything on your hard dirve you litterally wipe your hard drive and you have to reinstall everything!!! lucly most drivers you will need will be on the disk

Eaxctly why do you need to remove and reinstall it?
What's gone wrong? If we know what's gone wrong we can give better advice.
Why not do a repair as opposed to a reinstall.

when the system is booting it will ask you to press some key for the cmos setup..press it and change the boot order to cd drive...many options would be there like floppy , hard drive and harddrive..select cd drive...press f10 and save it. before doing that your xp cd should be there inside your cd drive(place it before you boot the system)...now its will ask you some options just give next for everything ....select fat32 format...give next for everything ...atlast you will be done.....

right click on your "my computer" icon on your dest top, and open it. Now, on your "C drive" icon, right click, go down the list and click formatt. It will erase everything on your hard drive. Good luck. Mikie.
