Actually that isn't quite accurate. Christmas was originally celebrated (before it was "Christmas") as the Roman holiday "Saturnalia". Christians "displaced" Saturnalia because Saturnalia was a week long party that sometimes included orgies, but Christmas never "was" Saturnalia. Christians often ignore the fact that Jesus was Jewish, wasn't white, and wasn't worshipped as God until the time of the Emperor Constantine... several hundred years after Jesus's crucifixion. You can lead someone to knowledge but you can not make them think.

Tell me, if you spent your life in a religion, celebrating the holidays, and you love it with all your heart, would you really want to hear these new rumblings about how evil your religion is and what crock your holidays are? It's insulting. Who really cares where the traditions started, but what they mean. Christmas brings joy to many, it lightens the hearts (and some wallets, yes) of those who participate.
Why is it such a big deal where it came from? Why not let the Christians celebrate Christmas and you celebrate Yule? I don't see you complaining to the Jews about their holiday or to those who celebrate Kwanza. It's only aimed at Christians.
Leave it alone. Christmas never hurt anyone, it's the one time a year when good will and peace are in abundance. More people are happier and more charitable this time of year then at any other point. If Christians want to celebrate Christmas, let them. IF they want to believe it's Jesus's birthday, let them. If they don't want to hear about Yule, don't force it on them. What you do when you shove it in their faces is selfish and cruel.
Leave them alone!

Since it's debut, Christianity has tried it's best to show it's uniqueness as a religion. At first, the Jews needed to be unique and separate from the Roman Pagans. Then, the Christians needed to show they were unique and separate from both the Jews and the Roman Pagans. The Christians originally did not Celebrate Christmas/Solstice at all, and Christians were looked down on for celebrating the Solstice because it was "too Pagan." I think they still don't like the idea of celebrating a Pagan holiday, but instead of not celebrating Christmas they just deny the origin. I think it's a way to have their (fruit) cake and eat it too.

Because people will always choose to believe whatever they want. Even if they have the facts in front of them. That's how humans behave. Secondly. People like the idea of having a special day for giving gifts. when in fact you should give gifts all year round then you would not be caught up in this pagan custom.

opposite to the wishful deliberating some idiots, Jehovah's Witnesses ARE Christians. And a real Christian is someone who completely rejects the God-dishonoring, unscriptural training of the Trinity. to settle for the trinity is to reject authentic Christianity.

Well , seriously, who cares about the fact that IT WAS a pagan festivity.
The problem that i have with Christmas is that it has become a COMMERCIAL opportunity. Now in 2006.
I don't care too much about 3 000 year ago. Seriously!!!
Feel the joy of Christmas, being the Birth of Jesus, coming to Earth to save us, even you!
Merry Christmas!

I am saved and I love putting up lights and a tree. I do not care if its a pagan thing to put those things up. I do not worship my tree or my lights. I just love how pretty Christmas is. I do not buy gifts unless you call me getting my mother a tv 2 months ago and had to tell her its a early christmas gift just so she would except it. And most who are saved feel the same as me. The just love how pretty a tree looks and the lights look.

Because the idea that Christmas is pagan is a dumb Puritan anti-Catholic smear that dates back four centuries. They had to justify their novel interpretation of Christianity, so they had to tar the Catholic feast of Christmas as pagan.
The only reason we still hear about it is because the Puritans' descendants now rule the world.
You'll find the American Pilgrims mouthing the same garbage.
Are you going to tell me they knew a lot about paganism and ancient religion?

They used pagan holidays to convert the locals to Christianity. They even did this with the Natives of America, as well as every other country. If they acknowledge that it wasn't theirs to begin with, they would have to admit they were lied to. Having your faith SHATTERED isn't pleasant. It almost drove me to suicide when I came back home to paganism. BB Sdw
