I work long strange hours, so when I get a day off to rest, it's nice :) I like to sleep until at least 11:00, which is why I post do not disturb signs on my back and front door of our house.... well, it was 8:30 this morning and my dogs started going crazy.. I got up and someone was knocking on my door. Jehovah's Witnesses. I have nothing against them. I love everyone. They ask if they can tell me a story, I say no thank you, they proceed to tell me anyway . I thought a "no thank you" would be enough seeing as how they disregarded my signs ;) . I understand wanting to teach about your God, but why do people try to force it on you????
I know this was lengthy, thanks everyone, for letting me rant and ask my question =)

I'm glad achtung lived in a place where no one knocks on your door before 9 or 10... why would I make this up? And the only reason I am on here ranting about it is because they did not leave when I said no thank you to the story... I don't like when people try to push their beliefs on others... and this isn't the first time I have seen this happen.. they don't just "go away" if they are unwanted... They even put "The Watchtower" newsletter on my mail box.. but thats ok.. I'm awake now :) and maybe I should make my sign a lil bigger..

I have one that continually returns, usually whne I'm busy. I am a Christ follwer, so I enjoy discussing our faiths together. The problem is I sense his desperation to convert me. I only want him to know what I have learned. He continually tries to push his magazine on me. When I offered some of my stuff, literally the "What on Earth am I here for" booklet, he rejected it. I told him out relationship is mutual, if he takes nothing, I take nothing.
Now I think he's attacking my wife behind my back, she's not quie where I am spiritually. So he's in dangerous territory. I have advised him.
I suggest being completely honest with him. If you put up the sign and he knocks anyway, politely show him the sign and advise following it next time. Remind him, if he can't be considerate, then he's not doing the Lord's work at all.

In the United States, Jehovah's Witnesses do not begin their house-to-house ministry before 9:am, except perhaps to businesses which are clearly open. In some areas, and on the weekends, local congregations may choose to wait until 10:am or later before knocking on doors in their territories.
In addition, it is quite difficult to believe that a Jehovah's Witness would ignore a conspicuous "Do Not Disturb" or "Night Worker Sleeping" sign clearly posted at the door and/or doorbell. Since they try to knock on every door at least twice each year, there is little incentive for them to delay or obsess over a particular door, especially if it may alienate or anger the householder.
It seems that from time to time, a secular house-to-house canvasser has noted the anger or annoyance on the face of an approaching householder and so the canvasser has chosen to deflect the householder's animus away from himself and onto the best-known door-to-door group the world has ever known: Jehovah's Witnesses.
It is interesting that Jehovah's Witnesses engage in their ministry without regard to their personal benefit, but instead in obedience to Christ's command and in expression of their love for God and neighbor. In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!
That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.
(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.
Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and move on when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:
(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

The only way that has worked for me to get JWs to stop coming to my door is to get the full name of the person at your door, and which Kingdom Hall they attend and then politely tell that person you understand what they are trying to tell you but that you are not interested, furthermore if they or anyone from their congregation bothers you again you will consider it an act of religious harassment and will hold them personally responsible as well as their local congregation and will contact a lawyer to pursue the case. This was actually done and a suite for a million dollars filed before it was settled out of court. JWs hide behind the freedom of speech clause of the constitution that they refuse to defend to do their door to door preaching. Use the law in a correct way to stop them from coming to your door. They are just people and the fear of loosing large sums of money will change their behavior.
