I don't really think that dolls are role models, I think that they are toys. I think the role models are the parents and the environment that they grow up in. If there's always shows on tv with little hoochies without panties showing it all to the world, then that's what they're going to think is normal. A barbie doesn't talk to you or anything like that so it can't be a role model for a child. Their parents are the role models.

My daughter is 9 months old but I have 14 nieces and nephews that range from the ages of 2 and 13.

I am a mom of 2 girls, ages 8 and 6. They both love barbie dolls and bratz dolls. I as a parent do NOT believe dolls are role models. I think they are just dolls. A real human is a role model. The parent and the other adults around them are the role models. I don't understand how someone could think of an inanimate object as a role model but I do know some people (adults) do think that way. Wrong there. Kids should never have to look at a toy as a role model. If you raise the kids right and spend good quality time with them, they won't have to look at toys for that type of thing. I know I never did growing up and can't tell you a single person I knew growing up or now that looked at a doll that way.

My daughter is 5 years old.

I think Barbie is a great roll model for little girls. She's so many different things. A Doctor, a mommy, a Vet and the list could go on and on. I think it's great because when my daughter saw that Barbie was a Doctor she said mommy I want to be a Doctor like Barbie when I grow up.

Bratz on the other hand I think are horrible role models for little girls. The way they are dressed is completely inappropriate for little girls. I'm 24 years old and I don't even wear those kind of things! I think it just send the wrong image to little girls. My daughter knows that she's not allowed to have Bratz dolls or to play with them. When we go into a store she'll tell you " Me and my mommy don't like those dolls their not nice". I know Barbie even has some doll's that are dress inappropriately but I don't let her have those either. At least Barbie has some good ones where as Bratz are all the same.

I'd also like to add that Mel has a good point parent's are the real role models. But I also believe that in some way's girls look up to things like Barbie. I know I did when I was a little girl I thought she was just the best. And I think now that there are Barbie movie's and everything else little girl's see her as more "real". Still it does come down to doing your job as a parent and teaching your kid's what's right and what's wrong.

I don't feel that Bratz are appropriate for children at all. They are shocking, even to me. Why would I want my child to think that it's normal for women to dress like whores. As for Barbie, I love Barbie. She's pretty classy...:) but I did have a slight problem with the pregnant Barbie. You take of her pregnant belly and out comes a little baby. I just thought it was a little weird with our growing number of young mothers. Plus, it was just plain creepy.

I absolutely, positively will not allow Bratz dolls in my house. I won't allow my daughters to play w/ them, or have them on their clothes. (my daughters are 1&2yrs) Before I had my first daughter I didn't know what a Bratz doll was. I went and visited my sons' classrooms for Halloween. I seen 3 girls dressed in thigh high mock leather boots, w/ faux fishnet stockings and midriff shirts. I had to ask one of the teachers what they were supposed to be. I honest to God thought they were hookers. I vowed then- no Bratz! As far as Barbies, I try to use good judgment. As my daughters' are 1/2 Mexican, we only buy dark haired dolls and nothing too revealing for clothes. I have even taught my 2 yr old to say "Bratz yucky."

my sister won't allow my niece to have Brats dolls. my niece is 6 and my sister thinks that the dolls wear so much makeup and short outfits that is just not right for her daughter to be playing with that. she thinks her daughter will want to wear makeup like that and dress like that.
