What I mean is, seeing so many people with this attitude that the world is ending seems like it could be hugely detrimental to society. What do you think having a large chunk of our population believing the end is near is doing to our overall society?

Best example I can give is the environment. The attitude that 'it will all be fixed when Jesus comes back' is destroying the world. Then there is the wonderful people trying to kick-start it and trying desperately to send us into World War III. Repeatedly money is sent to Israel to help rebuild the Temple on the Mount knowing full well that if a move is done to do that we will be in the Middle of World War III. We are going to end up in an end times battle but not because some figure has come back but because we have caused it!

It is sad. A bad thing all around. The world as we know it changes every thirty years. Revolutions in technology being the most recent global change. And yet people must be doomists.
The bible promises a change not an end. Judgment day Is a promise of change. Not a big exploding bomb. In reality the only end of days will come by the hand of man.
It is an unending cycle that continues year after year century after century. If it happens, well then, they were right, if not. then we all get to sigh and smile.
But the living in fear is not good at all. It's not good to Mother Earth, or Man, or any other living thing on this world we are supposed to be the custodians of.
En Tis Blethec, Blessed be.

This is the end of wickedness not the end of time. No one stops time. Psalms 37:9, 10,11 What will the earth be like in the future? What does the bible say about that? KJV
Psalms 37:9,10 for evildoers shall be cut off; but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth.
10. For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be. 11. But the meek shall inherit the earth and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Psalms 37:29 The righteous shall inherit the land, dwell there in forever.
Genesis 8:21Never again will I kill every living thing just as I have done.
Isaiah 65:21 speaking of the future for the earth it also says the lion will lay down with the lamb.
We don’t see that to day. It says they shall build houses and inhabit them and plant vineyards and eat their fruitage.
I think it should inspire us to take better care of the earth so what we inherit is not ruined by polution.

In some ways, I think it's being very detrimental to those who are working to protect, nurture and prolong the life of this planet. But, as with all things, the damage is not such that it cannot be fixed. Even a forest fire works to rebuild the forest stronger.

As such, I believe that those who are inconviencing the paths of others will be 'paid' for their services. If these people actually followed the teachings of Jesus, instead of every yahoo that comes along, they would remember he said not to worry about what the end times would be like. He told his followers to concentrate on 'being' the gospel: feed the hungry, clothe the naked, nurture the sick, forgive the enemy, etc... and let God worry about the 'end times'.

Personally, I think 'God' is using Christians to force a 'reckoning', one in which the outcome will not arrive, or proceed, as they expected. But, like the good shepard that he is, Jesus is going to use the rest of us to help him look for the lost and wayward (like those climbers on Mt. Hood). Even Jesus studied math.

Lets list them:
I might pick up the Bible and try to understand it better.
I might think first before doing something to in some way hurt some one else - I may try to live my life with better care.
I will pray, and try to have a closer relationship with God.
I might try to better understand Gods plan for the end times.

To be honest, the real damage comes within the churches themselves - a large portion of the church-going population believes that in the end, Jesus is gonna come and rapture them out before Satan gets here and reeks havac. i quess they can't count or something, but Antichrist comes on the 6th trump, and Jesus doesn't return until the 7th trump, so that means that when antichrist arrives pretending to be Christ, those folks are gonna believe its Christ come to rapture them out - but, they're gonna be taken by Satan. The rapture theory is one of most dangerous ideals out there. Nobody is going anywhere.

I believe we are in the end times, but I don't sit around looking up at the sky all day. I continue living my life as Jesus wants me too. I go to church, I evangelize, I volunteer at local homeless shelters, and the domestic violence shelter, I'm a big sister, I protect the enviroment by walking or riding a bike, recycling, and picking up trash in the parks on weekends. I am also a nurse at a local long term facility. I am a mother and a wife. hmmm, doesn't look like I am hurting society at all. God bless you!

What is detrimental is not the concept of the "end times", which is a purely spiritual concept, but the misinterpretation applied to it that it refers to a physical and literal end of the world. This Biblical literalism, which was the major fault of the Pharisees and enemies of Christ and is now the fault of fundamentalist Christians and Muslims everywhere leads to close-mindedness and reckless behaviour.

In reality, the "END OF THE WORLD" refers to the end of an old world order and the beginning of a new. It refers to the end of the winter of spiritual decline and the dawn of the springtime of spiritual renewal. Each great Teacher or Messenger of God in every age brings a new spiritual springtime, ends the old world and brings about a new world.

In this age, Baha'u'llah has brought a new spiritual springtime and fulfilled all the "End Time" prophecies of Christianity, Islam and other religions. He has brought the teachings necessary to establish a new world order. Baha'u'llah wrote:

"The world's equilibrium hath been upset through the vibrating influence of this most great, this new World Order. Mankind's ordered life hath been revolutionized through the agency of this unique, this wondrous System -- the like of which mortal eyes have never witnessed."

"It behoveth you to refresh and revive your souls through the gracious favors which in this Divine, this soul-stirring Springtime are being showered upon you. The Day Star of His great glory hath shed its radiance upon you, and the clouds of His limitless grace have overshadowed you. How high the reward of him that hath not deprived himself of so great a bounty, nor failed to recognize the beauty of his Best-Beloved in this, His new attire."

ok, where is your proof that that knowledge is detrimental to society? Most people who think they are going to die try to live life to the fullest. What would you do if you knew you were going to die. Guess what? We all are going to die someday... Even you. End Times, really means "Beginning". Have a lovely day!

For all those who say people who think end times are near so why should we take care of our planet? Crazy talk! We respect what our creator made for us. The world is deteriorating so now somehow it's Christians fault. I don't think so.

I think the real question is ... Is this society so bad that people think it is the end times...because it matches the description given for it....? we have immorality peaking, crime, terrorism, financial crises, tsunamis, earthquakes, wars, diseases, famine in many countries, a world wide system to cotnrol money and information to control people, self centered behavior, and people who hate god and torture others. It seems like life, in general, is not really that great.
