I'm wondering now if I should have gone through with it in the first place. I meant well making my decision- everyone says it's best for the animal. But know I'm wondering if he'll be the same? I don't want him to just lay around & sleep or feel like less of a male. I miss him running around, biting my pants leg, & coming to investigate every time the door opens- & I hope he still continues all this. Is it possible that he's just still recovering from the surgery last week, & that he just needs time to come back to it? Does neutering calm down every cat & make them lazy/ fat? I don't want my buddy to resent me- I really did have the cat's best interest in mind!

Hi Molly...it will calm his sexual aggression, not his overall personality. That comes with age and comfort. Please consider having a look at the following websites which explains the myths associated with neutering cats:

I am glad that all of the other people that answered this question has had a positive experience having their cats neutered; with mine the case has been quite the oppisite. He now mopes around all day and scratches things that he never did before. He knows that I took him to the vet and it's only my things that he tries to destroy. He will no longer come to me if I call him but he will now go to a stranger that is just visiting. He acts as though he doesn't like me at all now. And he has attempted suicide on several occasions by eating poisonous plants in the house (the plants were here before and he never touched them before his surgery). I almost forgot one of the most important things his hair started to fall out when I took him to the vet for this the vet said there was nothing physically wrong with him that it was stress causing his hair to fall out. I now wonder if it really was the right decission or not. This may be a reaction because of the breed of cat that he is; he is a Bobcat that normally ran wild his mother was killed and I got him when he 3 to 4 weeks old and finished raising him on a bottle. Now that would normally be a bond that could never be broken but I think that I may have stepped over the line. By the way It has been a year since his operation.

Different cats have different reactions.. It does calm them sexually but as for his personality, I would give him a few weeks to recover. Just imagine you going thru the same thing. You wouldn't be yourself either. After several weeks he hasn't gone back to being the same cat you knew and loved; maybe consider buying a kitten. That helped my male. My kitten keeps the "old" man busy all the time. Or if you don't want to buy another cat, find a friend that has a kitten and do play dates...

Of course! He might seem lazy right now because he needs time for his body to recover. I mean its exactly if somone gets a heart transplant. You won't see them running and jumping around a week after the surgery. Don't worry, your cat will be itself in about one more week.

Imagine you had major surgery-do you think you would be playful? Quit being selfish. We have a major pet-cat overpopulation in this country. Now he is not going to contributing to that.

Just give him a little time. I had my little male neuterred a couple of years ago, and he's still as bouncy as ever. You're doing fine.

I don't even think my guy knew what was done...he's just the same as ever. He was done at about 6 months though, not sure if that makes a difference
