There are around 2500 Golf Courses in Britain. I would estimate that 75% are private members clubs so around 1900?

I would say about 30%. And this is just a ball park figure after traveling in the UK often. England seems to have more than Scotland, it seems. Even some of the public courses like St. Andrews will cost you a pretty penny, however 125 pounds for a round on the Old Course...
