When I was younger my parents/grandparents used copper on some occasions; and now copper is used in bracelets and advertised on television as beneficial. i am wondering what else was used long ago that is beneficial/effective today?

When I was quite young (around 1950 - 58) I used to regularly be given a prescription for Transvasin cream to rub into muscles as I had a lot of muscular pain. It can still be bought but now comes in a spray as well as in tubes but there are umpteen other products now which are very similar - algipan, deep heat, ralgex etc. all made from virtually the same ingredients of more than half a century ago. Eucalyptus oil is an old favourite and is the main ingredient of a great many products for either muscles or the respiratory system. Eucalyptus oil will never go out of fashion providing people keep asking for it. It is when people succumb to the more expensive products, which are always in more attractive wrappers, that the old stand-by and excellent products of old start disappearing from our shelves. One old stand-by which has never gone out of fashion is Calamine Lotion but, these days. the chemists will try to sell you a much more expensive calamine cream, pointing out that it's less messy etc.

Yes, my mom used to give us onion tea for cramps, it tasted horrible but it do the job. The pain got worst for a minute or two but then it just stopped, so it did work. I know what your asking, there were many home remedies that people used a long time ago before all this new medicine, and it worked well, now people are making money of those remedies. I am sure there are many more house remedies but I can only remember this one.
