My 4 yr old is getting ready to go through a dental procedure where he will be having baby root canals and crowns. They are putting him to sleep to do this. Have any of you been through this?

Yes! When my son was 3. Everything will be OK!! They will give him an oral sedative which will make him sleep and pain medication after wards. The only thing to fear is the BILL!

I agree... children that are so young shouldn't have to have such major work done. Those are baby teeth, and are just going to fall out in a few years anyway. Its like throwing your money away.
I can see fillings, but not root canals. If the teeth are bad enough to need a root canal at that age, the dentist usually reccomends pulling them.
Also, the only reason root canals are usually done, is in adults when the tooth is to the point of having to pull it. They do the root canal so the tooth can still remain in tact (for eating and appearance) and the pain will no longer exist.
A child shouldn't need this... I think he is trying to get your money

No, I don't know, but I think I would get a second opinion before I'd put a 4 yr. old through that. Has your pediatrician given his/her thoughts on the matter? You may already know that this is very necessary. I'll pray that this all turns out exactly as it should and you will know all the ins and outs before it is done. God Bless.

why is a 4 yr old having such major dental work done on baby teeth? I have never heard of such a thing. Sedation is hard on an adult for dental work, I wouldn't dream of doing it to a child. I would suggest getting a second opinion.

my daughter who was 3 had caps put on her teeth and was put to sleep just have him bring a teddy or something to comfort him and let him know he is going to go to sleep and he will be ok just be ready to comfort him he will be confused and in pain when he wakes up you will need a few days of cuddling and movies and gatorade and things but you will get through it good luck
