Everytime we want to clean his face/eyes OR give him his medicine (with a dropper), he has a meltdown and yelps like there is no tomorrow. We haven't been able to clean his eyes or give him medicine properly because he just won't let us. Is there something we can do to make this better? Is he scared or is he in pain? I feel like everytime he yelps, our bonding goes down the drain. Please help.

i am a pet groomer and let me assure you, you are not hurting the baby. he cries because when he does you stop. dogs are smart. cleaning his face and giving meds is the kindest thing. neglecting his care is the real damage. keep trying even while he cries, he'll get used to it and eventually give up. it's a necessity.

Well, you could take him to the vet to check if he is in any pain. And when you give him his medicine, give him treats afterwards and rub him where he likes to be petted! Also, rub his throat and hold his mouth shut lightly if you need to give him pills.

I hope this helps!! :-)

Too bad.....I know it makes you feel bad to put him through it. Pets love us unconditionally.
I would bribe him with a treat. When my puppy is misbehaving all I have to say is "treat" and she stops whatever it is she is doing and stands to attention.
