You can put it anywhere you want - top, bottom or side - there is no right way. Whatever looks prettiest to you.

There is no set way for placing a bow on a wreath... You can place it at the top, at the bottom or in the middle... just keep in mind if you place it in the middle, it will look more like a funeral wreath.
If you place the bow at the top, make certain that the bow does not overpower the entire wreath. If you aren't putting any decorations other than the bow on the wreath, you might want to consider using a gauzy see-thru bow so the wreath is not top heavy. Same goes for putting the bow on the bottom... make sure it is not bottom-heavy.
Personally, I prefer the bow at the top with the ribbons hanging down the middle and just touching the bottom of the wreath but it is definitely a personal choice.

I even place something in the middle, such as a little snowman. The bow can be placed on top, or on the bottom, or you can even have no bow!
