All pets need constant care. Breed specific doesn't matter one may be loud one may be quiet. They are each their own.
A friend has one and he'll act real mean and bark and he tries to stand on his hind legs will roll over backwards. It really is funny big ole brute

I have boxers and they are similar in some aspects like being stubborn. IF you train them right from the start and are consistent with them they are easy to train. They also are know to have some skin problems but if you get from a good breeder chances are the will be fine. And Drooling . Some more than others but the only time they really drool is after eating and drinking or they get really excited. They don't just walk around and drool all day long. As for the bulldog temperament . It can't be beat. I would rather have a dog that drools a little than one that doesn't but has a ugly temperament. Just talk to some breeders and get a better picture of what they are like and some may let you come over and spend a little time getting to know some before you make your choice. There are even some that they will sell for less because they are not as wrinkled as they are supposed to be but I would prefer that anyway. Good luck and keep doing research.

Hi there:
Along with the grunting, constant coat care, walking (short walks bulldogs over heat very fast), and well how to say this... passing gas, English bulldogs are pound for pound the best family dog there is IMHO. They are well adjusted, even tempered, forgiving of mistakes dogs around. They never grown up mentally and are the source of silly antics all the time.
Yuppers they have a face that looks fierce. That is because they have a lovable disposition that they don't want anyone to know about. You should know that they are mouthy dogs. By that I mean that they like to, are compelled to, are fixated on, chewing.
They do not like long walks and prefer to lay about with young kids to fawn over them. They are the couch potato of the dog kingdom if you allow. As for the gas passing that is always corrected with a proper diet. The wrinkles around the face will require constant checking and cleaning to avoid sores or rashes.
LoL Bull dogs love attention so grooming (done well) will be time for fun.
If you are thinking about getting a bulldog, terrific! They make great apartment dogs. Just make sure that you are a strong minded person with the patience of Job.

Its great to see that you are asking questions vs just running out and buying one. This site is a good starting point but check out the bulldog club of america website, visit with some local bulldog owners and their dogs, and speak with some breeders too. That said, let me just give you my take based on my research and life with my new puppy in the last 4 months.
Bulldogs are great companion dogs...affectionate, good temperment (stubborn at times though), and great with people of all ages. Though they have a reputation for being lazy, they can be quite energetic and you do have to be careful not to overexert them as they are prone to heat and respiratory problems.
Do they smell? not with good hygene.
Are they loud? I have found the bulldogs I've met aren't big barkers generally speaking.
Do they require constant care? Due to their wrinkles and build, Minor daily care/grooming is usually recommended. In terms of exercise, they require much less than other more active breeds. Medically, they are more susceptible to respiratory and orthopedic issues so vet bills can add up.
Good luck in your research. Merry Christmas.

Bullies are great companion dogs. They do require alot of attention. If not bathed regularly, yes, as with any other dog, they can get smelly. Bullies snore ALOT, and can be quite flatulant.
They can develop sores in their wrinkles, mostly around their face and tail. Those areas tend to need a little extra care and should be dried thoroughly after a bath.
Talk to a few breeders. Don't just jump on the first one available. The right pup is well worth waiting for. Check out the breeder thoroughly, get Vet references and previous puppy buyers contact info and CALL all of them. Make sure you get to meet at least the dam of the litter (getting to meet both would be better, but if a stud was used, that might not happen).
Good luck....do your homework and take your time.

I do have a bulldog. His name is Dutch. He can be a handful. But; he is very loving and has great personality all his own. He does require some extra help. He is bathed 1 to 2 times a week. He does drool at times. He does snore and pass gas at both ends. These things can also be funny at times. He seldom barks, but he is very protective of the house and our family. I wouldn't trade him for the world.

Like I tell all my girlfriends. English Bulldogs are like living with a man. They BURP, FART, SNORE, STINK, DROOL, take the biggest poops ever and worst of all hog the hole bed. But they are the sweetest dog's in the hole wide world and I would never trade mine for anything.

They slobber alot, have lazy round eyes and a funny short yet pink tongue. They are quite chubby (or muscular) and can smell if you don't wash them - from what I have heard they can be very loving dogs... however if your dog was to portray ones self you may consider another breed :)
