Diphenhydramine is the chemical name for benedryl. Over the counter benedryl is 25 mg. 12.5mg is typically a childrens dose, but it still the same medication.

Diphenhydramine IS Benedryl- so definintely don't take that. Of course, anyone who has medication allergies should consult their doctor before taking ANYTHING (that means homeopathic remedies too- especially if you're already on any sort of prescription medicine) but there are a lot of non-diphenhydramine allergy medicines available over the counter- to name a few pseudephrine (sudafed), loratadine (claritin), etc, as well as massive amounts more available by prescription.
Call your doctor (s)he will have a much better idea of how to handle your unique medical situation than any of us, because (s)he's YOUR doctor!
