You know full well that most Christians say that. No need to imply that I'm stupid enough to think this is found in the sciptures.

You know who else helps people who help themselves? The almighty Jug Of Milk. (www.godisimaginary.com) He also answers prayers. Try praying to the Jug Of Milk. He will either answer your prayers: yes, no or wait, just like god. Amazing. Anyways, on a serious note, it makes perfect sense. If you believe anything other than god helping people who help themselves then you instantly realize just how useless any deity are. It's the world largest scam at work. This is a common form of rhetoric that is meant to confuse people into believe something has powers that, quite frankly, doesn't do jack. I'm thinking of starting a religion today, anyone who prays to me and helps themselves I will help. Anyone who says other wise is just trying to lead you astray from my message of peace, oh but I almost forgot; you MUST kill any non-believers who will not convert. It's cruddy I know but it the only way to be peaceful. You must know Mervin DePervin. (Also, I will give to those who ask for it what they TRULY need; and I know what that is better than anyone else.) Yours truly,

Mervin DePervin

P.S make sure to send 10% of your income to my house each month to help spread the word. These are your tithing. Do it. :|

P.P.S to the person above: don't waste your time with this phony, if you sit on your butt all day butt truly deserve to be given what you want then I will grant it...but you have to ask me for it first. (Makes me feel important and needed.)

P.P.P.S to the guy that thinks using the colloquial term OMG means that you have to believe in a god: YOU ARE A MORON! Is that really your evidence for god? "Oh, I heard you use the word god, see he does exist." You are so kindergarten-glue eater. Grow up. If that is your only hope for still believing then please...for the sake of humanity...you family, anything, please, please, PLEASE jump off of a bridge. Or play in traffic, either one is fine with me.

I think what is meant by that statement is that (example) if you pray to God to help you get a job, and then you do nothing but sit at home and watch t.v. all day and do not even go out there and fill out applications, how do you expect to get a job. I don't believe in this case God will just drop a job at your feet. No! You prayed, now you must get out there and search and trust that God will direct you to the right place to apply and aid you in getting that job. So in this case "God helps those who helps themselves" makes perfect sense.

This is not a Biblical quote firstly. But to me the idea behind the saying is that God is not some sort of vending machine in the sky where you just pop in a prayer and everything just falls in to your lap. I think it kind of means that God will help you, but there is an element of responsibility on us too, where we have a part to play and things to do etc. If you wanna get Biblical, there is a parable about talents, and its meaning is basically that God gives us talents and skills etc, and then WE have to do something with them. We are like stewards to God's gifts, and we have to look after them and make them grow (if applicable) and it' our responsibility to hone our talents etc.

Hope that helps :)

Lots of time, the energy needed to get out of a bad situation seems to generate outside help even if you haven't asked for it. The axiom is just a way to shortcut an unexplainable but much observed phenomenom.

This may make some sense with the additional words:
"GOD HELPS THOSE WHO HELP THEMSELVES UNDER HIS DIVINE GUIDANCE.'
Without God's guidance, no men, whether good or bad, can attain any significant purpose.

That is not a Biblical quote. It is quote used to excuse Christians from doing all that "helping the poor" which is so expensive and time consuming. I mean, really, we could be going to some conference somewhere or something useful!

You can't expect God to do everything for you with no effort on your part. You have to start, and then God helps as needed.

God suppliments your efforts, but if you do not help yourself - neither will God. It will not be done for you.

When Lazarus of Bethany had been dead and buried FOUR days, Jesus called him forth, resuscitated.

They could not raise the dead; He could and did.

But then He said "unbind him", "let him go". Lazarus had been bound with the burial cloths. Jesus did for them what they could not do. But He let them do for themselves (and Lazarus) that which they could do.

Makes sense. We do for ourselves what we can, and let God do for us that which we can not do. In His own time and way.

Yes, you can help yourself by doing things to make your life better, don't depend on others! And with Gods help you will succeed!
