I have heard and read about the superconscious state of a human being as active when asleep and the conscious state as active when awake. How do the two states of mind relate and how do dreams come in? Can dreams be used to foretell the future events? Do other animals dream? What actually are dreams?

Our two dogs dream, no question about it! They even try to run and bark in their dream state; to see eight paws twitching whilst they utter high pitched, muffled "Woofs!" is comic.

But serious dreams do happen to humans, and once I had reason to thank God for the way he prompted my twin in a dream. She says she dreams about me every night, and remembers them all. Well, one night she awoke in the dark, really upset at a dream about me. Unusually, she could not remember what it was about. But it was disturbing enough for her to start praying for me. We live far apart. Well, neither she nor I knew it, but a short while later I started having a prolonged heart attack. There had been no health issues at all prior to this, and I'm the least likely candidate you could imagine. For most of the day I felt worse and worse but was in a car (as a passenger, thankfully) and could not get to a Doctor till nearly 9 hours later! I was rushed straight to hospital, but felt immensely calm during the drama, trusting in God, and the staff pulled me through. A week later I got home. Can you imagine how I felt when my sister told me of this dream-prompt to pray for me?

All the problems with dreams seem to come with trying to interpret them. I'm only saying here that God can, and does, choose to enter into dreams, as shown in the Bible, and, I believe, in a far less dramatic way with my sister's dream. I'm truly grateful.

I don;t know about animals but for us humans dreaming is not so much a superconscious state as random thoughts, feelings, ideas etc. It relates to our real life experience in that things seen, heard and experienced while awake turn up in our dreams. Sometimes you may be concerned about something but not concsiously aware of it until it turns up in your dreams. Like when there was a shooting near my son's school and I kept having recurring dreams that something bad was happening to my children at school. When I am on a diet I dream about food. If I become cold during the night I dream of being outdoors without adequate clothing. If i fall asleep in front of the TV, I dream of whatever is on during my nap.

A dream is the memory of something done or something said which is stored very deep in the memory banks. Sometimes you dream about something that seems like a prediction but if you look back over things you have thought or said you would see that the dream is an embellishment on what was actually said. Dreams, except those in the bible, cannot tell the future.
Have a happy Christmas.

many different cultures view dreams differently. this is my take:

but the dreaming mind and the sleeping mind are the same. its not like you have two different brains that experience when you are awake and alseep. dreams can be your subconcious mind's reflection of your day (when you dream about things that happened earlier in the day), or can be your subconcious trying to send you a message. i think its interesting that if you have a day where you're very busy and not attentive to what happens, you are more likely to dream about mundane things that happened that day, as you did not allow yourself to fully experience these things when they happened. often the subconscious messages are sent through us in ways that our own experience dictates. for example, if you are afraid of spiders, and you are also at a point in your life where fear of something is holding you back, you may dream about spiders. this doensn't mean that tomorrow a big spider is going to attack you; it is your subconscious trying to show you that your fear is holding you back, or manifesting the fear that you feel and won't admit that you have. does that make sense?

you may also dream about experiences you had that occurred on many levels (physical, subtle, mystical) etc, and that when they happened your "waking" mind only perceived them on one level (physical, for ex.), but your subconscious of course perceived them on all levels. so you may dream something that is similar to past events but has a different "tone" to it, which would be those experiences rising to the surface.

many cultures believe that what we call "awake" is ALSO a dream, that this world is an illusion, and then you get into lucid dreaming (waking up in your dream, raelizing you're dreaming) and then of course, you may someday wake up in this illusion and realize the truth (or lie, or whatever) of it all.

dreams CAN foretell future events. the subconscious mind is connected to the ___ (oneness, truth, bla bla, whatever you call it) of the universe, which is outside the boundaries of time and space. therefore it is possible to dream about something that has yet to happen, or something that happened before you were alive. however, many dreams can be misconstrued as foretelling the future, and most dreams that have predicted something are only understood in retrospect, as we do not have a "dreaming culture" (one that understands dreams.)

my sister has dreamt things and saved herself from car accidents, i had several friends dream about the tsunami in indonesia before it happened, etc.

if you are really interested in dreaming and dreaming cultures, look up info about the australian aborigines and the tibetan mystics. it's really intriguing.

God approached many men in dreams, especially in the OT and spurred them on to greatness as prophets and etc. Dreams were God's method of communication during a time in which it was not permissable for Him to approach men physically due to man's forfeiture of his dominion God afforded him to Satan when Adam and Eve disobeyed and were expelled from Eden. As far as their correlation to our state of mind is concerned, since I'm NOT a psychiatrist or psychologist, I can only say that they can be what a person wants them to be in their lives as they become manifested through our actions. Sigmund Freud once said, "All men are great, in their DREAMS". In other words, we get to be what we want until we awaken. But, if they become manifest in our physical existence somehow, i would say that it's possible for dreams to tell the future. Think about the book of Revelation for a moment. John said in Chapter 1, "And I, JOHN was IN THE SPIRIT on the LORD'S day....." Meaning he was studying, praying, and etc. when GOD CAME TO HIM IN A DREAM (vision) through an angel and told him, "Write all that you see and hear, for these things are TRUE and FAITHFUL". Meaning that they are real and WILL reveal themselves to man in their due season. As far as animals dreaming, I don't know, but wouldn't think so since they don't have the mental capacity to retain such imagery. If I had to DEFINE what a dream is, I'd say it's a manifestation of what we want to be or what God wants us to be. Dreams are visions, spirits, warnings, good times, peace of mind and etc.... whatever you want them to be!

I was always told that when asleep the brain starts to organise and store the images and information it has received. Therefore these images etc etc can translate into dreams.

Superconscious?

If you subscribe to Fraud, your SUBCONSCIOUS is interpretting the events of your day. A reflection of sorts.
