My dad's getting the newest book by his favourite author, and framed photos of his grandson and granddaughter. My dad and father-in-law both absolutely love getting photos as presents.

Your question brought me to tears. I wish I had a Dad to buy him something for Christmas, but he passed away 12 years ago of cancer. He was the most caring father. I miss him so.
I think that presents are not really necessary, what you should do is spend the day with him, and tell him how much you love him and want him here with you forever. Tell him all you feel about him. One day he might not be here, and at least you will feel good that you had that chance. God bless you and your family.

Not bought my dad anything cause I haven't seen him since I was nine! Although, buying for my fiance's dad was hard! We tend to stick with booze or computer based product. Dad's are so hard because they are so simple in what they like, unless they have an obvious hobby, which is not often the case! It depends if you can splash out on things like hiring a race car for the day or something (although, you may want to save that for his birthday!) Does he like a particular whiskey? That is always thoughtful and expensive! (can you tell my future in law is Scottish!) Good luck cause that is always a toughie. x

I got him an airplane kit - Hurricane - where he puts it together and then paints it all up - he's into that kind of thing. Then also got him a desk thingy - where it has little quirky comments like
"I love deadlines - especially the sound they make as they go whooshing past".
just quirky!
