Cleaning your Lab's ears is so important! If you don't do it you could end up with a serious problem. What I do is put a little ear cleaner (you can buy it at almost any pet store) on a cotton ball. Then lift up the ear and gently rub it around the ear. Don't go to down to far down just on the outside of the inside of the ear. I hope you find this helpful!!!

This works best. Get some round cotton make-up remover pads and buy some ear cleaning solution from the vet. Put a bit of the solution on the pad and stand behind the dog and flip his ear up and put the cotton pad down into this ear canal and basically scoop around to get the gunky stuff. It's black and gross. If there is a lot it might mean he has an infection. Be gentle. Also, if he is only 8 months old, he will not like this but will not mind it over time. For the next year or so you will have to get someone to hold him firmly while you clean the ears. I always talk to my lab when I clean her ears in a soft voice and she always gets a cookie afterwards, so now she doesn't mind so much (She's 4 1/2)

If you're unsure, it's best to have a vet do it but if you are confident pick up some otic solution from the pet store. MOISTEN-not soak a cotton ball and gently wipe the ear flap of dirt and debris. be careful you don't get the liquid in the ear canal(unless it's meant for that purpose) and make sure you dry the ear off. Do not go into the ear canal since you can cause damage like a ruptured ear drum. Make sure it isn't ear mites or an infection, that needs a medication.
Do not pull on the ear either.

If your dog is only 8 mths old I would say that his ears should be fine!!
If the dogs ears are dirty, I would consult a vet as there may be an ear infection or something.
Don't clean them yourself- you could cause injury.
The vet can provide you with ear drops that dissolve the wax in a safe way.
Best of luck and merry Xmas

Take him to the vet.. and 8 month old pup wont have dirty ears its more then likely to be ear mites or and infection.. and just cleaning the ear wont do anything to sort the problem out.
I would take him to the vets first.

With a Q-tip, like humans do. We have to clean our Lab's ears everyday, he went to the vet yesterday and they said he might be prone to ear infection for his entire life. We always pull gross brown stuff out of his ears. My poor boy :( Hope your turns out better! There is some store bought ear cleaning you can use, and I reccommend using it at least once a week.

I have a lab about the same age first make sure its not an infection as labs are prone to them u might want advice from the vets first! i use cotton wall balls and cleanaural (from the vets)
Be careful and dont use cotton wall buds as they can push too far into ear canal and cause damage. Otherwise just gently wipe around where u can see with a damp cotton wall ball.

Take q-tips and clean the outer part of the inner ear... wow that sounded loaded... lol... Basically clean around the little cleft at the base of the "floppy ear" part, and around other trenches that you can SEE, do NOT stick the q-tip so far that you cannot see it or anywhere near his eardrum. If you do he will prolly yelp so just be gentle and if you barely hit it you will know before you injure him. If you need some help breaking up the wax you can dip the q-tip in hydrogen peroxide before swabbing.

I buy drops from my local pet store. You put a few drops on the floppy part of the ear, and massage into the ear. Then anfter about 2 min of this, take a dry rag and wipe out the extra, and make sure the ear gets as dry as you can.
