If I remember correctly, when we were buying appliances for the kitchen.....stainless steel has a smooth polished surface, mirror-like. Brushed steel is burnished(brushed, scuffed) so that it has a slight slight 'texture' to remove the mirror-like surface. Each is highly reflective but the brushed is less directly reflective. But then again I am NOT a professional decorator, merely givnig the information I remember.

Stainless Steel is a mixture of Copper & Steel, this mixture is supposed to prevent rusting. However depening on the quality of the mix Stainless Steel can actually rust.

Anyway Brushed Steel is just the effect, a brushed look, but you would need to check the packaging to see if it's brushed stainless steel or just brushed steel.

They are both stainless steel. One is not textured and the other is.... It's just that the brushed steel has been buffed to create a design. The main difference is this: with stainless steel, you will see lots of fingerprints often. With brushed steel, they won't show as much or as often...

Stainless steel is a polished mirror like finish where as brushed steel is a dull matt finish.

Brushed steel does not have a coating. Brushed steel is stainless steel with a brushed finish - its not as shiny. I suppose a lot of wear could smooth out the brushing a little and make it appear shinier.

I think brushed steel has a rougher (more matt) surface, stainless steel has usually been polished to a high shine.
