This is not a recognised breed but is a mix. Actually more than one mix.
There is no way to tell if any individual will be good with kids and none of the producers seem to bother with health testing.
The Anatolian that is mixed in is not a breed I'd recommend for kids although from the photos I suspect more than one Dane has been used as many of the dogs used to illustrate the breed have more in common with Great Danes than heavier mastiffs.
Huge dogs are often good with kids once they get past the puppy stage. Until they settle a little & learn some basic manners kids can make good bowling balls.
If you want a big dog I would look at Mastiffs or Danes where you have a choice from health & temperament tested parents.

There is no such "breed" as an American Mastiff. There are Old English Mastiffs, Tibetan Mastiffs, Bullmastiffs, Dogue de Bordeaux, and others I cannot presently recall. Many breeds have mastiff in their lineage, but there is no such breed as an American Mastiff. Ripped off? Well, if the person who sold you the dog led you to believe there was an American Mastiff breed, then you were deceived. An American mastiff is not a breed and thus cannot be registered by the AKC. Your dog appears to be Mostly Old English Mastiff with some Saint Bernard. Now keep in mind, St. Bernard ARE of the Molosser, or mastiff family. I see white on his chest, so he's clearly mixed with something. He's cute and as long as you love him and he loves you - no matter. I can say that he's a Mastiff mix. With what? Time to take guesses!

Check it out under the name american bandogge and this is the correct spelling. For all you misinformed people out there who say there is no such breed its origins are from pit bull, english mastiff and neopolitan mastiff but it is a breed that has been recognised for 200 years. Its like the name great dane but a great dane is another mastiff. I think one would be perfect with small children just watch those extra large extra clumsy puppy feet.

i have a Rhodesian Ridgeback Mastiff mix. he's awesome with kids. but he can knock them over. perhaps you should take your kids to a shelter and let them pick a dog that the employees can guarantee (no REAL guarantees of course) has been proven safe with kids. it'll also be easier for you if you find a dog thats about 6 months. puppies tend to need alot of clean up and you've already got kids. and the dog will only be as good with the kids as the kids are with the dog. don't expect the dog to just take having its ears or tailed pulled. kids need to learn to have respect for the dog as much as people. any dog can and will snap if they get beat on enough.
