I've answered the same question from a different asker a while ago....!! In Italian we do have different ways to translate "cool" depending on the context.
With the meaning of not warm or unfriendly person or who has self-possession we say "freddo" . If the meaning is attractive - cute, we say "figo" if male or "figa" if female.
Something that's really "cool" we say "è una figata".

cool can be translated with freddo, but in the way you mean it, you can say "che figata!", "fico"(but this one is no longer used". But these two expressions are very informal. if you want to learn others colloquial expressions contact me.
