Hi i have recently bought a japanese akita puppy.and we are crate training him.he whines and howls all night and he is waking my 5 month old baby and also next door and there baby too.we have tried ignoring it as advised but this is not an option as he is disturbing my baby and next door.we have also tried the clock,covering him up,leavin the radio on and even putting him with our other pup.but nothing seems to work. can anyone help? as we are suffering from sleep deprovation.

i did do alot of research before i got him.i also have another puppy and she is perfect in the crate, due to us training her.

I know that with one of our dogs, if they didn't have water in the crate, after being in there for a couple hours they would howl. Try leaving a small bowl of water, not enough to get soaked in, but enough to curb thirst, or even some water. Maybe toss in a soft chew toy or two. Lots of times they cry because they are bored. Just some ideas. Maybe you have tried these already! =0)

Akitas hate being parted from their people!!!!! You don't say if he is in a crate or not. If he is, you need to bring the crate into your bedroom & you'll probably find he will be much better. You can then gradually move the crate urther from the bed until it's eventually out of the bedroom. Presumably he's very young, so you can't take him for long walks to tire him, but you can do some training with him which will tire him out.

I know exactly how you feel with my 1st pup i sometimes had to sleep on the sofa and sleep deprivation was normal for a long time untill we got her crate which luckilly she loved.Our 2nd dog was more of a problem as he hated the crate and would literally scream the house down our next door neighboors were knocking on the wall so we had no choice but to let him out,we tried just leaving him in the room with our other dog but still the same problem so had no alternative but to let him sleep up stairs in our room with the crate,we had no more bother and we had a good nights sleep.Have you tried putting the crate at the bottom of your bed,i know it's not ideal to have dogs in your bedroom but you start to become desperate,unfortunatly our dog still sleeps in our bedroom as he chews when left.Alternatively have you tried leaving him in a room without the crate to sleep in,he may quieten down without feeling caged in.Im sorry i cant give no other advice but best of luck.

Akitas are a very vocal breed, and they can be very stubborn too. Maybe he would do better if he were shut in a small room, like the bathroom or the kitchen if you can. Most dogs take to the crate after a few nights, but occasionally you get one that just won't. Akitas are headstrong, smart dogs who are very good at training their owners to let them get their way. See if he does better confined to a room, but if he doesn't, unfortunately you may have to wait him out.

sounds like u are doing everything right, maybe u could try putting something in that smells of u? an old jumper or something, also i dont know if u are leaving him for short periods in the day in the crate as this will help him realise that u do come back! also ensure to feed him in the crate so he associates it with good things. my puppy carried on for over a week before settling so maybe he just needs more time? failing that maybe the vets can suggest something.

HAVE YOU TRIED PUTTING A LARGE TEDDY WITH A HOT WATER BOTTLE UNDER IT, IS THE A NOISE OR SHADOW WHAT HE CAN SEE, HAVE TRIED PUTTING HIM IN A DIFFERENT ROOM. IF YOU TAKE HIM OUT JUST BEFORE BED TIME FOR A LONG WALK, HE MIGHT THEN SLEEP, ITS VERY HARD IN THE BEGINNING, I DO UNDERSTAND. HAVE YOU CONTACTED YOUR BREEDER, THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO HELP, HE OBVIOUSLY WANTS YOU NEAR HIM AT NIGHT. GOOD LUCK, HOPE SOMETHING HELPS YOU ON ANSWERS.

i really dont mean to be mean but you should have looked into owning a puppy before you decided...i mean jeez they are seriously little babies with fur... you'd cry too if you were that small and all alone in a crate... poor puppy

I would suggest putting a little alcohol in its water, but i was told off when i suggested this to a friend with a new born. Also, try sleeping it next to a radiator.

i have no idea, but if it gets really bad you might just have to put the japanese akita puppy outside in a shed or something.make it comfortable. sleep is important.

You can get a barking collar that gives a little shock when he barks, only put it on at night and i guarantee you wont have to use it for very long dogs r not stupid!!
