Yes, men can get a yeast infection, like any other fungal infection (jock itch, anyone?). It's not incredibly likely, but if he has symptoms like itching, etc., he might have one and will need some sort of treatment. He should consult a doctor, as the type of creams that women use probably aren't the best for killing yeast on a man.

On to the more likely:

But also, the alkaline nature of seminal fluid (and some lubricants) can spur yeast growth, so you need to clean yourself down there as soon as possible after sex to discourage an infection. Washing with water/wash cloth should be enough. I also recommend eating a container of yogurt once a day. Not the tastiest stuff on the planet, but the live cultures in the yogurt help to keep your yeast levels balanced. Also, if you are on any type of birth control pills, they can make you more susceptible to infections. And then there is the standard advice of wearing cotton underwear and avoiding thongs (which can allow the spread of bacteria from back to front and spur an infection) and wiping yourself from front to back.

I hate yeast infections, and the yogurt thing works really well for me. You can also buy the active cultures found in yogurt in a pill form at some health food stores, if eating it doesn't work for you.

You did not get a yeast infection from your boyfriend. A yeast infection is vaginal. What others are saying here assumes a urinary tract infection (bacterial, not yeast). Since a urethra is not the same as a vagina, 'peeing' will not affect whether you get a yeast infection or not. And NO, your BF does not have a yeast infection (yeast requires both warmth and moist in order to grow.)

Do Guys Get Yeast Infections?

Obviously, guys don't get vaginal yeast infections. But balanitis (pronounced: bal-uh-nie-tis), an infection of the head of the penis, can be caused by the same candida that causes infections in girls. Guys who have diabetes are more prone to this infection. A guy who gets balanitis may not have any symptoms or the tip of the penis may become red and sore or itchy. Some guys might have a slight discharge as well.

Guys who are not circumcised need to take extra care to clean properly beneath their foreskins. The warm, moist folds of the foreskin are the perfect environment for yeast infections to thrive. Keeping the area clean and dry may help prevent an infection, but if symptoms do show up, a trip to the doctor will solve the problem.

you both need to be treated for this yeast infection. If not, you will keep passing it back and forth to each other. During treatment abstain from sex. All the best!

the penis is not a good place for yeast infections. it can infect his urethra but most likely soon as he pees it is over. With his one lane for all traffic design there is no room for yeast to inhabit. the same thing that makes us great for keeping sperm and babies alive makes us targets for yeast infections.

It is true that both of you may have one. When my cousin and her boyfriend had sex it always seemed liked seem was getting one and the doctor told her that he would have to be treated also because they could have just been passing them back and forth to one another and treating only one person did not solve a thing. Yes men can get yest infections too.

Sorry dear, you are the only one going through that pain and suffering. Try peeing after sex. Most Gyno's suggest you do that to protect yourself from yeast infections.
