Tomatos, Beetroot and Black currents for Cancer prevention
Red wine for the heart but it is prone to cause cancer if drunk too much
Drink water on a daily basis
But the only thing I would recommend is moderation in everything with plenty of variety and as much activity or excises as possible.Last but not least read and converse to keep your mind active, is probably the most important

My advice and what works me be even though [I am not 50] is to exercise in intervals and eat smaller portions of well chewed food. I think you have to look at the individuals frame and then decide what is best according to their desired fit. They should avoid butter and only eat wheat bread [whole grain]. I think Christmas is the time of the year that most people start to get really fat. If your parents are grossly obese there isn't much you can do about it, but you could set an example.

Same as your healthy diet.
"older" people are not different; they may be wiser about what suits them, engage them in their choices, being over 50 does not mean we are only a burden. They can probably help you with your healty diet as much as you can help them
They may have specific medical needs to be considered, but that applies to any age.
the mediteranean or Japanese diets are generally acnowlwedged as most healthy
very little meat, little refined sugars and processed fats, lots of fresh local & seasonal produce, including fish. a little alcohol. and enjoy it ie social eating, stop eating when full, wild harvesting trips etc

People over fifty are considered old? - now you've really spoiled my day. I consider myself to be a 51 year old teenager. (Must admit I like the bit about the red wine and chocolates though).

It is very refreshing to hear that someone wants to look after their parents in their old age, especially in this day and age. It has already been mentioned that moderation is a key factor in health, with a little exercise

Unsaturated fats, fruit and veg, yoghurt rather than milk (helps fight osteoporosis), fibre to prevent digestion problems... The usual healthy stuff, really.
