When I just get comfortable enough to fall into a sleep ,I actually stop breathing and it feels like someone has suffocated me ?,so therefore I would just like to know if there is anything that can cure this with medical attention I just had this experience about 5 minutes ago ,and the only thing that strikes my mind as a suffocating feeling could occur is when you are laying on you're left side because of the heart and then the other worry maybe it's too many covers but i only sleep with a microfiber blanket and a comforter but i do not cover my head in the covers ? , so why is this happening do you think? Cause it kinda scares me .

please go and have a lung x-ray and if ANYTHING looks wrong have a cat scan done! i waited a year before Doctors did a cat scan----it turned out to be cancer. This only happened once and then a year later it did again. so please see a Doctor.

No that it has scared you you are more susceptible to a sort of panic disorder. I have asthma and wake up with my chest feeling very heavy sometimes. It sounds to me like you have developed sleep apnia....which can be serious. You need to talk to your doctor and probably participate in a sleep study so it can be monitored and recorded. I don't know if there are medications but there are masks attached to a small machine that keep you breathing when it occurs. Get to the doctor toots.

Get checked out for sleep apnea or any related disorders. When we stop breathing our oxygen levels drop. The drop in oxygen is sensed and a little part in our brain recognizes this and sends out a message to "jump start" our breathing again. This is scary stuff. I would not be surprised if you are suffering from daytime tiredness and difficulty falling asleep at night. Please get checked out. Take care of yourself.

it happens to me during summer when i suntan - my thyroid gland has limps in it so they get larger and prevent my breathing when i am lying on my back. so if it is happening with u while being on your back it might be thyroid gland. u have to have a blood test and ultrasound check. just blood test without ultrasound check up wouldn't work that well. i have normal blood test always thou i have problems with thyroid gland
