If you are a hypoglycemic there is really no foods you need to avoid, unless you are allegic to certain foods. The best is to eat 6 small meals during the day, Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, and snack before going to bed. This will keep your blood sugar up. The other thing is try and not eat anything that is high in sugar, as it will increase your blood sugar very fast, then over time you will rapidly drop your blood sugar. Best to eat regular small meals and maintain a steady blood sugar.

Avoid the High Sugarred Products. Keep things like cheese crackers or peanut butter crackers on hand for low sugar episodes. The best thing for a hypoglycemic to do is to eat a balanced diet/variety of foods but to eat about 5 or 6 small meals per day instead of 3 normal sized meals. The Pancreas has an area called the Isle of Langrens that produces insulin and the pancreas pumps it into the blood stream as your blood sugars rise. The insulin acts as a key and allows the body's cells to use the sugars. Without enough insulin the body has a high sugar (diabetic). With too much insulin in the system the body has a low sugar level. By eating high sugarred items the pancreas pumps too much insulin thus the blood sugars become too low. Generally the hypoglycemics that do not control their eating habits "burn up" their pancreas and become diabetics needing insulin shots daily to survive. Take good care of this problem. It could be nuch worse. I am a 40-year diabetic. Have a GrEaT ChRiStMaS!!

Do you mean, if you are diabetic already and having a hypoglycemic episode?
(as opposed to being hypoglycemic and not diabetic.)

During an episode it is important to get your sugar up fast. (People have died from severe diabetic hypoglycemic episodes.)
In hospitals nurses give orange juice (often mixed with sugar) when people have a blood sugar of less than 60. You can also use hard candy. (Many diabetic carry hard candy with them.) Chocolate works poorly- as it has a low glycemic index.

Now, how do you regulate your blood sugar with food to keep it from being to high or too low? I agree with those who say that you should avoid foods with a high glycemic index (pasta, potatoes, white rice, sugar). Oddly a little chocolate is fine- but in moderation, since the calories will add up. Eat only complex carbs such as beans, high fiber, whole grains, vegetables. Six small meals is not a bad idea. Also get some protein in your diet.
Exercise also will help.

avoid sugar as strange as that might sound. this would turn your blood sugar into a roller coaster and then end up way too low. stay away from processed carbs like the hydrogenated things at the store. eat a lot of fruits and veggies so you don't get low. keep up on protein (might i suggest more red meats than fish or poultry, but it's your choice. just keep them up). As long as you eat three good meals a day, you should be fine. Try making your own foods at home if you have the time. I know it's not the most convenient, but your body with thank you. Plus it can be fun to play around in the kitchen. Merry Christmas.

Hypoglycemia (meaning blood sugar is below 4 mmol/L) should be treated by consuming something with a high glucose level very quickly (anything will do although chocolate isn't very efficient, takes too long to act). It is recommended that you then follow it up with biscuits or something else with Carbohydrate in it!
