Lately i've been having long-term pain in my chest, it doesn't come and go, i am taking medication for panic attacks, but when i tried to fly today my heart beat went up around 200bpm, i had chest pains, difficulty breathing and they wouldn't allow me to fly. i get this feeling anytime i get nervous or even just excited (like about a birthday!!) the doctor has me on a 24 hour heart monitor, what do you think is the problem? i'm young, not pregnant, dont smoke, dont drink often.

I have had Panic Disorder for 6 years. You will be okay. Your heart rate is absolutely normal. I PROMISE you. The worst attack I ever had my heart rate was 160 and I am 28. The younger you are the faster your heart rate can go up and not cause problems. In fact, I JUST talked to a paramedic a few days ago while I was having an attack. He assured me the heart is VERY resillient and can take a lot of torture. If your heart rate is 160 for over an hour THEN seek help. Until then, just try to relax. And I KNOW that is so much harder said than done. From experience. But, try. I promise you that you are okay and nothing bad will happen to you. --------------------------------------... To the post below me. Seriously, you know nothing. I wasn't comparing HER health to MINE. We are BOTH healthy and have panic attacks. So WE can relate. Read a book on the subject and then come scare her again by giving her WRONG INFO. JEEZ.

No one can accurately diagnose a heart condition over the internet. If you think it might be your heart, then you should get an appointment as soon as possible with a cardiologist to do some tests. Given your age and description of yourself, theres a good chance it isn't your heart, but it might still be a good idea to get it checked so you don't worry about it. I think that anyone on a 24 hour heart monitor is going to become hypersensitive about any symptoms that might be their heart, and nearly anyone would probably develop anxiety if they don't already have a problem with it. So - go to the doc, rule out the heart problems, and see if you can get off that monitor and quit focusing on your heart rate.

Hi there, I just laugh about my past 3 years of panic now. I was not able to go anywhere without carrying xanax. Fear of having another attack was the most important subject of my days. When i first found joe barry's web site i started to cry because of my happiness.
