Hi, My husbands sisters daughter spent the night last night and we were talking today and she told me that her family tested positive for tubercalosis a week ago, she said only on the skin though? And they took medicine so its ok? Should I be worried and maybe get checked out myself? How seriuos is this do you think, I am gonna google around right now but want to hear what yall think about this. Thanks for reading!! And answering!!

No worries. The interpretation of the test can be confusing for you but for the time being, its okay. A carrier or sick person with TB is no longer infective after 2 weeks of taking medication. Otherwise if still concerned, get youself tested.

The positive PPD is not a test for a positive tubersulosis infection, but rather a test for whether or not someone has been exposed to a mycobacterium (eg. tuberculosis or leprosy). Therefore, it sounds like they were never carriers of the disease, but rather only exposed to it at some point, and therefore are not and have never been contagious. Especially if they took the medication (probably INH), they shouldn't be contagious at all.

Tb is harder to get then what people think. You really have to be in that persons face when he or she coughs and then you really have to inhale deeply. Just because they tested postitive doenst mean they have it.. just means they have been exposed to it. You should be fine.. I wouldnt worry. The chances of you even being exposed are very very slim.

TB has been making a comeback the past few years so you might want to be safe and get it checked
