No that would be rude, to just take it with out asking first.
I hate when you go to a pot luck/bring a dish party, and you always get that "ONE" person. That feels the need to just take left overs home, maybe the person that bought it would like to take the rest back home them self.

I think it is a tacky tradition for party guests to expect to take food home from a party, especially heinous when the party is still ongoing and the food my be needed at the party. That said, it may actually be an accepted practice in your social circle and you may have set this club member up for criticism because you don't like them. Be careful, Santa is watching!

Caterers normally do not allow you to take food home in case you might get sick and then sue them. If you made the arrangements with them, they may allow you to take the food that is leftover. (such as a luncheon after a funeral etc.)

no, becuase if the person in charge wnats to donate it to children, you shouldn't take it. that is a horrible think to think of. kids need food, especially at his time of year. also, if you were allowed to take the food, then yes.

You just answered your own question. If they were giving it to a children's shelter, why would you take it for yourself?! That's pretty selfish especially at this time of the year.
