My younger sister, who is 15, recently decided to become a vegetarian. She has been following this for about 3 months now and is doing great with it. I decided to get her a vegetarian cookbook geared toward high school and college students. Do you think she'll like this?
Also, I noticed at Thanksgiving that she didn't eat much other than vegetables, potatoes and stuffing. Shouldn't she be eating tofu or soy-based foods for a protein substitute since she isn't eating meat or eggs?

I think that a teen vegetarian cookbook sounds great. Go to Barnes and Noble and they have a whole section of veg cookbooks. You might want to get a vegan one for her if she doesn't eat eggs or milk. If she has a vegan cookbook, she'll be better exposed to products like tofu, and probably experiment with them and like them. Don't worry!!

If she likes to cook, I'm sure she will enjoy the cookbooks. If she doesn't like to cook, she may see some recipes in the cookbooks she wants to try and then start to cook and learn to enjoy it.

You can get protein from other sources other than meat and eggs. I know certain nuts contain protein. You could also get a book on nutrition that shows you where you can get the necessary vitamins and minerals if you are a vegetarian.

She should be eating protein with every meal, but this usually isn't hard if she is eating healthy foods. This can come from soy or tofu, or from beans, greens, broccoli, and lots of different vegetables. A vegeterian cookbook would be a great present. I really like Vegeterian for Dummies because it tells you a lot of different protein sources. I was only a year older than her when I decided to become vegeterian and I loved books about it, because it is hard to know what to eat when you are new to the lifestyle. Anyway thanks for supporting her. I know how important it was to me to have the support of my family when I decided to be vegeterian!

watch out! some people make stuffing with the liver and stuff of the turkey. i think gettin a vegie cookbook is a great idea, she'll love it. thanksgiving is hard, because if u eat at someone else's house its kinda hard to bring fake meat in the car. i usually have fake meat for dinner, but on thanksgiving i had the side dishes, and i ate plenty.

No those Soy based protiens are not good for her either.
She sounds like she is on the right track.
I cookbook sound thoughtful. You do need to see if she is Vegan, no animal products at all. So the cookbook is the right one.

Maybe you can also get her a wok?
I got one for a cousin one year at Bed, Bath, and Beyond!
She could begin to cook stir fry in the wok! It might be pricey, but just an idea!
Maybe you have one at home already! I think the cookbook is a great idea! Get her some sauces for the veggies!

A cook book is a great idea and although soy is good Legumes are better - maybe a source book on legumes so she can try a few out to broaden her diet.
