What are some good decorative ideas for Christmas dinner table?

I'm hosting Xmas dinner here with family, and husbands parents. I am looking for some neat ideas to decorate the dinner table.

For Example: I made candy cane reindeers, Im thinking of putting one in everyones wine glass/cup.

Have you ever seen an apple and pinapple tree? It is , I think, originally from Williamsburg VA and makes a wonderful centerpiece. Find a cone shaped piece of wood and put nails all over it about 2 " apart. Be sure and put a long one on the top. Just pop your apples from the bottom to the top making sure the smaller apples are at the top. Place a whole pineapple that is of suitable size on the nails at the top. Fill in between the apples with either boxwood or pine. It smells as good as it looks.

A really great idea is an Ica Luminaire (sp). Take a large pail and fill with water. Then, in the middle of the pail of water, weight a soup can or other object (this will form where you will put the candle). You can leave the water clear, or add food colouring. You can add pine cones, cranberries, ivy...anything (get creative!) before it freezes, or just leave it plain. Then freeze until SOLID!!! Warm the outside of the pail and the soup can so it loosens the mold, and remove the ice. MAKE AHEAD, SINCE YOU MAY NEED TO EXPERIMENT TO FIND THE RIGHT TECHNIQUE AND SIZE, ETC. For you party, pull it out of the freezer and place on a tray to collect the water as it melts. Find a candle and place inside. Light it, it looks beautiful (even better if you can dim the lights a little bit). Just remember after dinner to check the tray and dump excess water.
Depending on the size you make, it should last a few hours (The bigger the better). To Hide the tray, place an evergreen ring around. I make lots of these and light them outside. I put them all the way down the walk. They don't melt if it's cold enough. Looks so pretty!

I fill tall glass vases of varying heights with cranberries and water, then float a (unscented) candle on top. A few days to a week before, I also make my on ice vessels to hold shrimp. and cold hors de'vours. Simply take a big bowl (metal works best), put some water in it, then take a smaller bowl and place it inside the bigger bowl, weigh down the smaller bowl with a bag of frozen vegetables so the water is pressed down. Place it in the freezer overnight. You can un-mold the bowl by setting it into warm water (which will release the ice inside). What you are left with is a beautiful ice bowl. Sometimes I will also put some evergreen sprigs in the water before I freeze it. Looks very pretty!

Tie some bows around the wine glasses. Lay a wreath in the middle of the table and put one of those big candles in the middle of the wreath. I f you have any leftover candy canes, fold the napkins up like a fan and tie with ribbon and a candy cane.

Cranberries in a clear water filled vase w/ white flowers or bright red flowers. Scented floating candles in glass bowls. Red cloth napkins in glass/cup. I would also do pretty place cards w/ your guest's name on them w/Xmas designs.

These are all great ideas. I really like candles. I usually buy small glass bowls and float candles in them. It would be pretty to color the water one color and have a candle of a different color floating in it. It really makes the table very classy looking.

I filled a bowl with red and green m&m's, I also sprinkled the table with red and green hershey kisses. If you have napkins you can tie ribbons around them. You could wrap your reindeer in the napkins. A small plant with small candles on both sides of it, small so you can see over it.

scented pine cones, individual votive candles at each place, sachets of potpourri. plastic champagne flutes filled with potpourri and a couple cinnamon stiks tied with a bow. let the kids make paper napkin rings, contruction paper personalized with their own drawings. I use to buy the clear glass ball ornaments, bag of potpourri, open the ornaments and fill, then use a hot glue gun to add ribbon, beads, bows, etc. give them away to friends as a keepsake. you can take the regular solid colored balls and write names, dates, etc with the liquid paint pens (bottles). look thru craft magazines, online, in walmart, magazine rack at the grocery store, you don't have to buy to browse for ideas.

That's great! You could also garnish each plate with a sprig of holly or mistletoe, or even just mint if it's hard to find. Garnish the serving dishes with some raw cranberries and parsley or kale.
